Objective Abnormalities of static brain activity have been reported in schizophrenia, but it remains to be clarified the temporal variability of intrinsic brain activities in schizophrenia and how atypical antipsychotics affect it.Methods We employed a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and a sliding-window analysis of dynamic amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (dALFF) to evaluate the dynamic brain activities in schizophrenia (SZ) patients before and after 8-week antipsychotic treatment. Twenty-six schizophrenia individuals and 26 matched healthy controls (HC) were included in this study. Results Compared with HC, SZ showed stronger dALFF in the right inferior temporal gyrus (ITG.R) at baseline. After medication, the SZ group exhibited reduced dALFF in the right middle occipital gyrus (MOG.R) and increased dALFF in the left superior frontal gyrus (SFG.L), right middle frontal gyrus (MFG.R), and right inferior parietal lobule (IPL.R). Dynamic ALFF in IPL.R was found to significant negative correlate with the Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS) scores at baseline. Conclusion Our results showed dynamic intrinsic brain activities altered in schizophrenia after short term antipsychotic treatment. The findings of this study support and expand the application of dALFF method in the study of the pathological mechanism in psychosis in the future.
Sex difference of autosomal alleles in populations of European and African descent
Lingjun Zuo,Tong Wang,Xiandong Lin,Jijun Wang,Yunlong Tan,Xiaoping Wang,Xueqing Yu,Xingguang Luo 한국유전학회 2015 Genes & Genomics Vol.37 No.12
In the present study, we aimed to report the individual sex-different genetic markers across autosomes in European- and African-origin populations. A total of 8400 females and 8081 males in 19 independent cohorts were genotyped across genomes using Illumina or Affymetrix arrays. The allele frequencies were compared between females and males in nine non-clean cohorts (with some human disease traits) using genome-wide logistic regression and then the nominally significant associations were replicated across 10 clean cohorts (without disease traits). Meta-analysis was performed to derive the combined p values across all cohorts. We found 13 markers that were genome-wide significant (p B 5 9 10-8) between females and males in the meta-analysis of all cohorts of European descent, including rs7740449 at SYNE1, rs7531151 at PLD5, rs697455 at PPP1R12B, rs6745746 at LOC100128413, rs17000079 at PARM1, rs11948070 at PDE4D, rs7801825 at INSIG1, rs9551642 at MTUS2, rs2932174 at TPTE2, rs1961597 at SALL3, rs4117529 at METTL4, rs6021473 at SALL4 and rs6092466 at RAE1, and one marker, i.e., rs10145208 at PCNX, that was genomewide significant in the meta-analysis of all cohorts of African descent. The most robust finding was rs7740449 at SYNE1, next to ESR1. We conclude that there are many sex-different markers on autosomes. These markers may be informative in differentiating females and males.
Mechanism of Ce promoting SO2 resistance of MnOx/γ-Al2O3: An experimental and DFT study
Xiaopeng Zhang,Zhuofeng Li,Jijun Zhao,Yuezong Cui,Bojian Tan,Jinxin Wang,Chengxiang Zhang,Gaohong He 한국화학공학회 2017 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.34 No.7
Various physico-chemical techniques and theoretical chemistry computations are used to obtain a deep insight into the mechanism of Ce improving SO2 resistance of the catalyst Mn0.4Cex/Al2O3 (x stands for the molar ratio of Ce : Al). Theoretical computation with density functional theory (DFT) shows that Ce modification enhances the adsorption energy of SO2 adsorbed on Ce surrounding, resulting in the preferential adsorption of SO2 on Ce surrounding. It protects the surface Mn from SO2 poisoning, leading to a better SO2 resistance. FT-IR and TG results are in good accordance with DFT results. FT-IR results suggest that absorption peaks related to SO4 2− cannot be detected in Mn0.4Ce0.12/Al2O3. Moreover, TG results show that weight loss peaks due to sulfated MnOx decomposition disappears after Ce addition. Therefore, Ce modification inhibits sulfates formation on active components lead to a better resistance to SO2 of Mn0.4Ce0.12/Al2O3.

The first tuber mustard calmodulin-like (CML) gene BjAAR1 (Brassica juncea var. tumida Tsen et Lee Abiotic stress and Abscisic acid (ABA) Responsive gene 1) was cloned and characterized. The protein encoded by BjAAR1 contains four predicted Ca2+ binding sites (EF-hand motif) and its recombinant protein can bind Ca2+ in vitro. qRT-PCR showed that the expression level of BjAAR1 was rather high in non-swollen stem of tuber mustard and largely reduced in swollen stem. Expression of BjAAR1 enhanced ABA- and stress-induced gene expression in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). Transgenic plants also exhibited hypersensitivity to NaCl, mannitol, and ABA during the seed germination and post-germination stages. ABA biosynthesis inhibitor, norflurazon (NF), rescued hypersensitivity phenotype of transgenic plants to NaCl and mannitol, indicating that BjAAR1 functions in multiple abiotic stresses response through ABA-dependent process.
Synergistic Anti-tumor Effect of KLF4 and Curcumin in Human Gastric Carcinoma Cell Line
Ji, Jun,Wang, He-Shuang,Gao, Yan-Yan,Sang, Li-Min,Zhang, Li Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.18
Kr$\ddot{u}$ppel-like factor 4 is a transcription factor which plays an important role in development and progression of various carcinomas. Curcumin characterized by excellent anti-cancer properties is regarded as a serviceable natural compound used in carcinoma therapy. This study aimed at exploring the impact of KLF4 overexpression in cooperation with curcumin on the proliferation, apoptosis and invasion of human gastric carcinoma BGC-823 cells. Flow cytometry analysis, CCK-8 assays, transwell assays and Western blot results showed that KLF4 overexpression combined with curcumin had significant anti-proliferation, pro-apoptosis and anti-invasion effects on BGC-823 cells. We also found that KLF4 had synergistic effects with curcumin, better promoting apoptosis and inhibiting proliferation and invasion of gastric carcinona cells. These results indicate that KLF4 could be used as a potential therapeutic target; curcumin could act as an auxiliary and provide a promising therapeutic strategy in stomach cancer.
