Just Healthcare in an Aging Society: The Need for a Human Flourishing-Based Understanding
Jayne Hewitt 이화여자대학교 생명의료법연구소 2017 Asia Pacific Journal of Health Law & Ethics Vol.10 No.2
Current theories of justice describe the arrangement of institutions for a just society, ones that seek to demonstrate equal concern and respect for all. However, the link between theories of justice that guide decision-making arrangements for intuitions and justice for individuals is not clear. This is particularly evident in relation to healthcare, where egalitarian theories of justice fail to account for the outcomes experienced by individuals. Introducing a case study that describes one man s healthcare experience in a large regional city hospital in Australia, this article argues that healthcare, particularly in an aging society, must move beyond the biomedical understanding of health, and seek more broadly to promote human flourishing. With a foundation in virtue ethics, the article then proposes an alternate understanding of justice in healthcare that addresses the highlighted limitations of egalitarian theories.

Ba. (Sign stands for Brunella asiatica)and Am.(Ajuga multiflora) together with Tc. (Thesium chinense) have been remedies good for scrofula and diuretics. after a series of anatomical research, author has found something worth mentioning. The most significant portions in identifying each species would be like follows. ①Presence or absence of fiber-belt surrounding main Vascular bundle at lower portion in leaves. 〔Am+, Ba-, Tc-〕 ②Whether its arrangement of Vesseis in root is root is poly arch-Shaped or not 〔Am-, Ba+, Tc-〕 ③Palisade tissue of mesophyll in Ba. consists of 4 to 5 layers of cells instead of 2 to 3 in Am's. While Tc. has not such a typical palisade. ④Tc. is easily discernible from other two Species, as being of a different family. But if with D. J. Cho 〔※Local nomination of Tc. which grows particularly in gigantic shape near along Seashore〕there may arise some puzzlement. The colony of fiber cells appearing under each Octagona of Stems is not enough to aid this case. Problem would be solved by surveying dimensions of cortices, the latter (D.J.Cho) being far wider than the former. ⑤Ba. has shown more content of ashes and water-extractive stuff than Tc. which is dearer in price. this fact gives high possibility of being better remedies as diuretics to the former〔Ba〕.

Despite an increase in research on the effects of cooperative learning (CL) on EFL learning, few studies explore the processes occurring within the use of CL and even fewer depict challenges with CL implementation. To address that gap, this qualitative multi-case study explored the important roles that individual accountability − CL’s key principle − play in enhancing EFL learning and was guided by the following question: How does missing the activities that demonstrate individual accountability in CL affect EFL learning? Data were generated by participant observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis to conduct an empirical examination of what teachers and students experience, namely that while CL was part of teacher participants’ instructional practice, the procedures of some selected CL structures were only partially followed by these teachers. When CL was not implemented with fidelity, performances of individual accountability in home groups and peer interactions were missed. With a Cultural-Historical Activity Theory lens, this analysis provides a portrait of tensions in the CL implementation, such as one between EFL learners (subjects) and the EFL classroom (community); it was evidenced by the learners having peer preference, i.e., taking the attitude that not all of their peers could be their resource person.

The aim of this study was to ascertain the level of concordance among gastrointestinal pathologists for regression grading in rectal cancers treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation. Seventeen gastrointestinal pathologists participated using the Mandard, Dworak, and modified rectal cancer regression grading systems to grade 10 representative slides that were selected from 10 cases of rectal cancer treated with long-course neoadjuvant chemoradiation. The slides were scanned with a whole-slide scanner generating dynamic digitized images. The results showed very little concordance across the 3 grading systems, with κ values of 0.28, 0.35, and 0.38 for the Mandard, Dworak, and modified rectal cancer regression grading systems, respectively. In only 1 of 10 study cases was there unanimous grading concordance using the modified rectal cancer regression grading system. It was felt that these systems lacked precision and clarity for reproducible, accurate regression grading. The study concluded that there was a need for a simple, reproducible regression grading system with clear criteria, a cumulative or composite score taking into account all sections of the tumor bed that is sampled rather than the worst section (highest grade), and there should be a uniform method of sampling of these specimens.
