<P>A low supply voltage and highly linear subthreshold CMOS low noise amplifier (LNA) for 2.4 GHz wireless sensor network applications is presented in this letter. We applied multiple gated transistor (MGTR) technique in subthreshold region to compensate the linearity degradation of low supply cascode topology. Moreover, the feedback capacitor, C<SUB>f</SUB> is used to enhance the power gain of amplifier without additional dc-power dissipation. The proposed LNA has gain of 13.1 dB, noise figure (NF) of 3.8 dB, and −2.5 dBm IIP3 while dissipating only 0.49 mW from 0.7 V supply. The LNA has been designed using a 0.13 μm 1P8M standard CMOS process with top metal thickness of 3.3 μm. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To examine whether the IL-1A (-889) polymorphism associates with a risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and acts interactively with the apolipoprotein (APOE) $\epsilon$4 in the development of AD, we performed genotype analyses of the IL-1A and the APOE of the 102 Korean AD patients and 200 Korean non-demented controls. We failed to detect a significant difference in genotypic and allelic frequencies of IL-1A between the AD group and control group. No overexpression of the IL-1A C/T genotype and IL-1A T allele was found when we analyzed the late-onset and early-onset patients, separately. There was no significant genetic interaction between IL-1A polymorphism and the APOE polymorphism. I n conclusion, the IL-1A polymorphism did not contribute to the development of AD independently or interactively with the APOE $\epsilon$4 allele in Koreans.

Desorption of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) from contaminated sediments was investigated to clarify the effect of stabilizing agents on Cd and Pb desorption kinetics. The desorbed aqueous Cd and Pb concentrations and the residual amounts of Cd on the sediments in the desorption tests were best fitted to a pseudo-second-order kinetics with the highest R<SUP>2</SUP> values among the models used in the kinetic studies. The average residual Cd on sediments were 24% and 19% less in the presence of apatite and birnessite, respectively, than in the absence of them. However, the Pb desorption was not affected by the stabilizing agents. The negligible aqueous concentrations of desorbed Cd and Pb in the presence of apatite and birnessite suggest the stabilization of desorbed Cd that was facilitated by apatite and birnessite and Pb. The kinetics study with Cd shows that the rate constants are not affected, but the desorption extents are affected in the presence of apatite and birnessite. The Tessier sequential extraction method and toxicity characteristic leaching procedure indicate that Pb is more strongly bound on the stabilizing agents than Cd. Overall, birnessite and apatite can be successfully applied in remediation of Cd and Pb contaminated sediment.
Public key broadcast encryption scheme using new converting method

Broadcast encryption is a cryptographical primitive which is designed for a content provider to distribute contents to only privileged qualifying users through an insecure channel. Anyone who knows public keys can distribute contents by means of public key broadcast encryption whose technique can also be applicable to many other applications. In order to design public key broadcast encryption scheme, it should devise some methods that convert a broadcast encryption scheme based on symmetric key cryptosystem to a public key broadcast encryption. Up to this point, broadcast encryption scheme on trial for converting from symmetric key setting to asymmetric public key setting has been attempted by employing the Hierarchical Identity Based Encryption (HIBE) technique. However, this converting method is not optimal because some of the properties of HIBE are not quite fitting for public key broadcast schemes. In this paper, we proposed new converting method and an efficient public key broadcast encryption scheme Pub-PI which is obtained by adapting the new converting method to the PI scheme [10]. The transmission overhead of the Pub-PI is approximately 3r, where r is the number of revoked users. The storage size of Pub-PI is O($c^2$), where c is a system parameter of PI and the computation cost is 2 pairing computations.
Evaluation of Satellite Based Precipitation Products at Key Basins in Bolivia

This study has evaluated Satellite Based Precipitation (SBP) products at key basins in Bolivia. Three basins of national interest were selected at different ecological steps: highlands, valleys and lowlands. GSMaP and CHIRPS products were tested showing promising detection abilities especially in regions with high elevation. At highlands the correlation coefficients of both SBP products showed values from 0.915 to 0.976. On the other hand, at lowlands, the coefficient values ranged from 0.895 to 0.926. Then, the combined products of GSMaP and CHIRPS with national rain gauge network were obtained using correction factors iteratively at sub-basin scale. The national sub-basins coding system of was used. These combined products so-called GS and CH showed a notorious improvement from 0.996 to 0.999 in relation to raw SBP products. At lowland regions results showed the largest improvement percentage in comparison with the other regions suggesting that higher intensities play a key role for correction scheme. The proposed scheme is feasible to implement with other SBP products and in other regions. The precipitation at sub-basins scale allows performing water balance, hydrological studies, biophysical assessments, water management planning among other applications.

This paper demonstrated a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) using cost-effective (1-poly 6-metal) mixed signal standard CMOS process. To have the high-quality factor inductor in LC resonator with thin metal thickness, patterned-ground shields (PGS) was adopted under the spiral to effectively reduce the ac current of low resistive Si substrate. And, because of thin top-metal compared with that of RF option (2 ㎛), we make electrically connect between the top metal (M6) and the next metal (M5) by great number of via array along the metal traces. The circuit operated from 2.48 GHz to 2.62 GHz tuned by accumulation-mode varactor device. And the measured phase noise of LC VCO has -123.7 dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset at 2.62 GHz and the dc-power consumption shows 2.07 mW with 1.8V supply voltage, respectively.
