Performance Analysis of Buffer Aware Scheduling for Video Services in LTE Network

        ( Meng-hsien Lin ),( Yen-wen Chen ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2015 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.9 No.9

Recent advancements in broadband wireless communication technologies enable mobile users to receive video streaming services with various smart devices. The long term evolution (LTE) network provides high bandwidth and low latency for several emerging mobile applications. This paper proposes the buffer aware scheduling (BAS) approach to schedule the downlink video traffic in LTE network. The proposed BAS scheme applies the weighting function to heuristically adjust the scheduling priority by considering the buffer status and channel condition of UE so as to reduce the time that UE stays in the connected state without receiving data. Both of 1080P and 2160P resolution video streaming sources were applied for exhaustive simulations to examine the performance of the proposed scheme by comparing to that of the fair bandwidth (FB) and the best channel quality indicator (CQI) schemes. The simulation results indicate that the proposed BAS scheme not only achieves better performance in power saving, streaming delivery time, and throughput than the FB scheme while maintaining the similar performance as the best CQI scheme in light traffic load. Specifically, the proposed scheme reduces streaming delivery time and generates less signaling overhead than the best CQI scheme when the traffic load is heavy.

      • The Effects of Consumers’ Perceived Value and Satisfaction on the Purchase Behavior Towards Biotechnology-Derived Health Products

        Hsien-Ming, Shih,Feng Lin,Wen-Tsann Lin,Ching-Hsin Wang,Meng-Hua Li 대한산업공학회 2015 대한산업공학회 추계학술대회논문집 Vol.2015 No.11

In this study, consumers’ perceived value of branded products is regarded as their overall evaluation of the brand according to currently available information. When consumers develop favorable perceived value for a brand, their satisfaction with the brand’s product increases accordingly, thus prompting purchase behavior. This study adopted a reliability and path analysis to test the research hypotheses. The findings of this study indicate that perceived value positively influences customer satisfaction, and customer satisfaction positively influences purchase behavior. However, perceived value does not significantly influence purchase behavior.

Study of Data Placement Schemes for SNS Services in Cloud Environment

        ( Yen-wen Chen ),( Meng-hsien Lin ),( Min-yan Wu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2015 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.9 No.8

Due to the high growth of SNS population, service scalability is one of the critical issues to be addressed. The cloud environment provides the flexible computing and storage resources for services deployment, which fits the characteristics of scalable SNS deployment. However, if the SNS related information is not properly placed, it will cause unbalance load and heavy transmission cost on the storage virtual machine (VM) and cloud data center (CDC) network. In this paper, we characterize the SNS into a graph model based on the users` associations and interest correlations. The node weight represents the degree of associations, which can be indexed by the number of friends or data sources, and the link weight denotes the correlation between users/data sources. Then, based on the SNS graph, the two-step algorithm is proposed in this paper to determine the placement of SNS related data among VMs. Two k-means based clustering schemes are proposed to allocate social data in proper VM and physical servers for pre-configured VM and dynamic VM environment, respectively. The experimental example was conducted and to illustrate and compare the performance of the proposed schemes.

Cardiovascular Disease–related Health Beliefs and Lifestyle Issues Among Karen Refugees Resettled in the United States From the Thai-Myanmar (Burma) Border

        Akiko Kamimura,Kai Sin,Mu Pye,Hsien-Wen Meng 대한예방의학회 2017 예방의학회지 Vol.50 No.6

Objectives: Refugees resettled in the US may be at risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, little is known about CVD-related issues among Karen refugees who have migrated to the US from the Thai-Myanmar border. The purpose of this study was to examine CVD-related health beliefs and lifestyle issues among Karen refugees resettled in the US. Methods: Karen refugees resettled in the US from the Thai-Myanmar border (n=195) participated in a survey study on health beliefs related to CVD, salt intake, physical activity (PA), and smoking in the fall of 2016. Results: A high-salt diet, physical inactivity, and smoking were major lifestyle problems. Participants who adhered to a low-salt diet considered themselves to be susceptible to CVD. Most participants did not engage in regular PA. Regular PA was associated with less perceived susceptibility to CVD and greater perceived benefits of a healthy lifestyle for decreasing the likelihood of CVD. Conclusions: Each refugee population may require individualized strategies to promote PA and a healthy diet. Future studies should develop health education programs that are specifically designed for Karen refugees and evaluate such programs. In addition to health education programs on healthy lifestyle choices, tobacco cessation programs seem to be necessary for Karen refugees. At the same time, it is important to foster strategies to increase the utilization of preventive care among this population by promoting free or reduced-fee resources in the community to further promote their health.
