Load and Damage Spectra for Pavement Design in Very Heavy Load Conditions
Paul Garnica,Roberto Hernández 한국도로학회 2018 한국도로학회 학술대회 발표논문 초록집 Vol.2018 No.05
In this paper the authors would like to present and share the measurements of load spectra and their modelling for pavement design purposes in the Mexican road network, which due to the intense level of trade with the United States present a very high percentage of heavy vehicles in the flow of vehicles and with high levels of load. Examples of these measurements are given in the country's main transport corridors. Damage spectra are also presented that are associated to each of the different axle types (i.e., single, dual, tandem, tridem or another one) by computing for instance the Miner damage coefficient in the same load ranges used in the definition of the load spectra. Is this frequency distribution of the Miner damage coefficient that is called damage spectra. The damage spectra seem to be a very useful tool to evaluate the pavement expected damage, i.e., rutting or fatigue cracking, induced for a given axle type. Moreover, it can be showed that there is a direct relationship between the forms in load and damage spectra. Some examples are presented to illustrate the damage spectra computations. The incorporation of these load spectra into mechanistic design methodologies and their implications in the definition of public policies for the preservation of the road network are discussed.

Grape waste management is one of the main problems of winery industries, but, conversely, grape waste contains a high amount of polyphenols that might protect against human diseases related to oxidative stress, such as colorectal cancer. Therefore, the aim of this work was to investigate the antioxidant and antiproliferative activities of a grape waste extract obtained by supercritical fluid extraction. Because the beneficial effect of grape is related to its content of polyphenolic molecules, the extract was chemically characterized by high-performance liquid chromatography in order to assess its major bioactive components. The antioxidant activity of the grape extract was determined. The results showed that the grape extract presents a strong antiradical activity in the in vitro 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical assay and protects against reactive oxygen species production in human colon adenocarcinoma cells (Caco-2). In contrast, the extract did not protect in the citronellal thermooxidation system and showed a weak protective action against lipid peroxidation in Caco-2 cells. The clonogenic assay and the cell cycle distribution analysis showed that the grape extract has a significant antiproliferative effect in a tumor cell line. These data indicate that grape extract is a promising product to be used as an anti-free radical agent and could exert a chemopreventive action.

The design and fabrication of a bilayer Ti6Al4V–Ti6Al4V/30Ta component were performed by using the powder metallurgyprocess and solid-state sintering as the consolidation step. Phase change and sintering densifcation of the component werestudied by dilatometry. The addition of 30 vol% of Ta to the Ti6Al4V matrix had a noticeable efect over the microstructuraland mechanical properties of the alloy, which showed decrements of up to 12.2 and 21.5% in nano-hardness and elastic modulus, respectively. The decrement of these properties strongly afected the wear and corrosion performance of the component. Special attention was focused on the intermediate zone between layers denoted by a transition zone, which presented betterwear response because of the properties and microstructure caused by the gradient difusion of Ta. Ti6Al4V/30Ta alloyshowed an improved corrosion behaviour compared to Ti6Al4V alloy, decreasing 2.4 times their susceptibility to corrosionand about two orders of magnitude their corrosion rate. The bilayer component in this study is proposed as an alternative todecrease the consumption of expensive materials with improved properties.
