Polyaniline-carboxymethyl cellulose nanocomposite for cholesterol detection.

        Barik, Abdul,Solanki, Pratima R,Kaushik, Ajeet,Ali, Azahar,Pandey, M K,Kim, C G,Malhotra, B D American Scientific Publishers 2010 Journal of nanoscience and nanotechnology Vol.10 No.10

<P>Cholesterol oxidase (ChOx) has been covalently immobilized onto polyaniline-carboxymethyl cellulose (PANI-CMC) nanocomposite film deposited onto indium-tin-oxide (ITO) coated glass plate using glutaraldehyde as a cross-linker. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic and electrochemical studies have been used to characterize the PANI-CMC/ITO nanocomposite electrode and ChOx/PANI-CMC/ITO bioelectrode. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies reveal the formation of PANI-CMC nanocomposite fibers of size approximately 150 nm in diameter. The ChOx/PANI-CMC/ITO bioelectrode exhibits linearity as 0.5-22 mM, detection limit as 1.31 mM, sensitivity as 0.14 mA/mM cm2, response time as 10 s and shelf-life of about 10 weeks when bioelectrode is stored at 4 degrees C. The low value of Michaelis-Menten constant (K(m)) obtained as 2.71 mM reveals high affinity of immobilized ChOx for PANI-CMC/ITO nanocomposite electrode.</P>

A novel approach to synthesis of scandia-doped tungsten nano-particles for high-current-density cathode applications

        Barik, R.K.,Bera, A.,Tanwar, A.K.,Baek, I.K.,Min, S.H.,Kwon, O.J.,Lee, W.S.,Park, G.S. MPR Pub. Services 2013 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF REFRACTORY METALS AND HAR Vol.38 No.-

A novel synthesis approach for scandia-doped tungsten nano-powder using a sol-gel method is developed. It involves dissolving tungsten oxide at 300oC in the presence of a mixture of nitric acid, citric acid and ammonia. The dissolved tungsten oxide reacts with an aqueous solution of scandium nitrate in the liquid-liquid phase, which results in the homogeneous mixing of tungsten and scandium particles. A spherical shape particle was obtained due to the dissolving of tungsten oxide in the solution. Citric acid enhances the mixing of ions at the atomic scale, which affects the hydrolysis reactions and leads to the formation of the phase pure nano-particle. The synthesized nano-powder was characterized by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), EDS (Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and XRD (X-ray Diffraction) analyses. The spherical morphology was observed via a SEM analysis and a narrow particle size distribution was noted by means of a TEM analysis. The XRD analysis of the powder showed the complete formation of the phase pure nano-particle with an average diameter of 50nm without any contamination by other materials.

Process development for recovery of vanadium and nickel from an industrial solid waste by a leaching-solvent extraction technique

Barik, S.P.,Park, K.H.,Nam, C.W. Academic Press 2014 Journal of environmental management Vol.146 No.-

A process for recovering V(V) and Ni(II) from an industrial solid waste using sulfuric acid leaching, solvent extraction, precipitation and crystallization has been developed. The leaching parameters investigated were time, temperature and H2SO4 concentration. To quantify the linear and interaction coefficients a 23 full factorial experimental design was used. Regression equations for the extraction of V(V) and Ni(II) were determined and the adequacy of these equations was tested by Student's t-Test. More than 98% of both V(V) and Ni(II) were extracted in 90 min using 1.35 M H2SO4 at 40 oC. In addition, solvent extraction of V(V) with LIX 84-I in kerosene from the acidic leach liquor bearing 10.922 g/L V(V) and 18.871 g/L of Ni(II) was investigated. V(V) was extracted selectively using 40% LIX 84-I followed by stripping with NH4OH solution. McCabe-Thiele plots at O:A = 2:3 with 40% LIX 84-I and O:A = 3:1 with 15% (v/v) NH4OH showed two and three theoretical stages are needed for quantitative extraction and stripping of V(V), respectively. Ni(II) was selectively recovered from the V(V) free raffinate by adding ammonium oxalate at 60 oC. The purity of different products such as ammonium vanadate, nickel oxalate and nickel oxide obtained during the processes were analyzed and confirmed from the XRD studies.

      • Effect of Deuterated Solvents on the Excited State Photophysical Properties of Curcumin

Barik, A.,Goel, N.K.,Priyadarsini, K.I.,Mohan, Hari Korean Society of Photoscience 2004 Journal of Photosciences Vol.11 No.3

Optical absorption and emission studies have been carried out to understand the effect of deuterium on the solvent dependent photophysical properties of curcumin in deuterated solvents such as $CDCl_3,\;(CD_3)_2SO,\;(CD_3)_2CO,\;CD_3OD\;and\;CD_3CN$. Optical absorption spectral studies showed that there is no significant shift in absorption maxima compared to the non-deuterated solvent. The fluorescence maxima shows significant shift with polarity of solvent but not much affected by the deuteration. The fluorescence quantum yield of curcumin increased marginally in almost all the deuterated solvents, indicating reduction in the non-radiative pathways. The fluorescence decay was biexponential in all the solvents and the average fluorescence lifetime was not much affected with deuteration, but showed decrease with increasing solvent polarity. Based on these studies, it is concluded that intermolecular hydrogen transfer is only partially responsible for the excited state deactivation of curcumin.

Investigations on Split-Source Inverter Based Shunt Active Power Filter Integrated Microgrid System for Improvement of Power Quality Issues

Barik Prasanta Kumar,Shankar Gauri,Sahoo Pradeepta Kumar 대한전기학회 2022 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.17 No.4

To meet the constantly rising energy demand, renewable energy sources are increasingly being used in power networks, transforming the traditional power distribution system into a microgrid (MG) based system. Simultaneously, the presence of nonlinear loads in the MG system may cause unwanted power quality (PQ) issues, which must be thoroughly addressed. The use of a shunt active power fi lter (SAPF) to mitigate PQ problems in a standalone MG system is discussed in this paper. SAPF performance must meet a number of requirements, including constant dc-link capacitor voltage, continuous input current fl ow, and lower switching loss, all of which are diffi cult to achieve with a traditional voltage source inverter (VSI). A new inverter named split source inverter (SSI) has been recently developed and has all the above features. In SSI, both the dc and ac sides are regulated using modulation index with the same control mechanism as that of normal VSI. The application of SSI with SAPF is yet to be explored in detail. As a result, a performance comparison of two inverters (traditional VSI and SSI) based SAPF with modifi ed synchronous reference frame technique for generation of reference current, adaptive hysteresis current controller for generation of switching pulse, and proportional-integral controller or fuzzy logic controller for dc-link voltage regulation has been investigated in this paper. Under ideal/non-ideal source conditions, the proposed SAPF outperforms other counterparts in terms of dc-link voltage regulation and mitigation of harmonics generated by various nonlinear loads.

Development of Nanoparticle-Based High Current Density Cathode for THz Devices Application

        Barik, R. K.,Singh, A. K.,Shukla, S.,Singh, T. P.,Raju, R. S.,Park, G.-S Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2016 IEEE transactions on electron devices Vol.63 No.4

<P>Scandia (Sc2O3)-doped tungsten nanoparticle-based high current density cathode is developed for the application in terahertz (THz) devices. This paper involves synthesis of scandia-doped tungsten nanoparticle powder using chemical technique, estimation of optimum porosity, and development of pellet with required porosity by optimizing process parameters. The cathode, made out of the above pellet, is tested in an analytical system containing Auger electron spectroscope and anode. The results show that the cathode can deliver more than 100 A/cm(2) current density with stable emission-strongly recommending it as a candidate for the use in a THz device. Theoretical estimates show that the void porosity is to be kept at 21% for proper surface coverage to produce good emission with long life.</P>

Comparison of Various Joint Decompression Techniques in Septic Arthritis of the Hip in Children: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

( Sitanshu Barik ),( Vikash Raj ),( Sant Guru Prasad ),( Richa ),( Varun Garg ),( Vivek Singh ) 대한고관절학회 2023 Hip and Pelvis Vol.35 No.2

The aim of this review is to conduct an analysis of existing literature on outcomes of application of various methods of joint decompression in management of septic arthritis of the hip in children. A search of literature in PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar was conducted for identification of studies reporting on the outcomes of intervention for septic arthritis of the hip in children. Of the 17 articles selected, four were comparative studies; two of these were randomized controlled trials while the rest were single arm studies. Statistical difference was observed between the proportion of excellent clinical and radiological outcomes in arthrotomy (90%, 95% confidence interval [CI] 81-98%; 89%, 95% CI 80-98%), arthroscopy (95%, 95% CI 91-100%; 95%, 95% CI 90- 99%), and arthrocentesis (98%, 95% CI 97-100%; 99%, 95% CI 97-100%), respectively. The highest overall rate of additional unplanned procedures was observed in the arthrocentesis group (24/207, 11.6%). Patients who underwent arthrocentesis had a statistically greater chance of excellent clinical and radiological outcomes, although the highest level of need for additional unplanned surgical intervention was observed in the arthrocentesis group, followed by the arthroscopy group and the arthrotomy group. Future conduct of a prospective multicentric study focusing on the developed and developing world, along with acquisition of data. such as delay of treatment and severity of disease will enable assessment of the efficacy of one technique over the other by surgeons worldwide.

Anasuya Barik,Sidheswar Panda 아시아기술혁신학회 2023 Asian Journal of Innovation and Policy Vol.12 No.2

With the advent of COVID-19, the world economy has undergone enormous losses and unprecedented crises. Moreover, this pandemic has put a significant effect on all business organizations, comprising the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector. MSMEs have been continuing to develop business strategies and are eager to compete in the market. The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the full focus of MSMEs from ‘business growth’ to ‘business survival’ worldwide. E-commerce readiness plays a crucial role in a time of uncertainty and crisis during COVID-19 and affects the durability and sustainability of the business. This study attempts to study the readiness of online business and e-commerce adoption of MSMEs and its contribution to economic growth by utilizing both qualitative and quantitative techniques in the case of India. We use content analysis to determine the readiness of online business and E-commerce in the post COVID-19 period. The result highlights the specific issues of this sector such as the shortage of resources and disruptions in the supply chain & logistical issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualitative analysis discloses that almost half of the respondents adopt online platforms along with additional challenges to sustain their business during the pandemic. This study utilizes annual time series data for the period from 1973-74 to 2017-18 to understand the long-run relationship between India’s GDP and MSMEs units. By utilizing the co-integration technique, this study reveals that there is a long-run relationship between MSME units and the economic growth of this country.
