Background Static reconstruction surgery that tightens the tension of the inferior tarsus, thereby raising the lax lower eyelid, is a common treatment for paralytic ectropion of the lower eyelid. We present one such operative procedure, in which an orbicularis oculi muscle flap was used. Methods The surgical technique involves partial resection of the tarsus and the skin, as well as a superior-based orbicularis oculi muscle flap that is sutured to the firm tissue present on the Whitnall tubercle. The muscle flap is approximately 7 mm in width and 15 mm in length, with a superior pedicle that is attached to the tarsus at the medial point of the resected tarsus. The procedure results in contact between the ocular surface and the lower eyelid. Results The procedure was performed in 11 patients with lower eyelid ectropion due to facial paralysis. Ten cases showed a favorable outcome following surgery, with stable results seen over an average follow-up period of 4.5 years. In one case, recurrence of ectropion was observed 2 months after surgery due to an insufficient correction, and the patient required repeat surgery. Conclusions The orbicularis oculi muscle flap was an effective means of suspension and was able to maintain long-term traction tension. This procedure can therefore be considered a favorable treatment option for lower eyelid ectropion due to facial paralysis.

In recent years, development of image processing methodshas rapidly progressed to automatically identify spatiotemporaldynamics of embryonic cells in Caenorhabditis elegans. Themethods allow quantitative and high-throughput analysis formolecular dynamics during embryogenesis. In turn, theanalyzed dynamics can be merged onto a reference embryo,providing an integrated view of embryogenesis. This integrationis enabled by invariant embryogenesis of C. elegans, whichis the most unique advantage offered by this organism. Therefore, the key point in the development of the methodsis how to take advantage of this feature. In this article, wereview a series of development of such methods and theirapplications. First, we describe basic image processing methodsthat are the basis for development of cell identificationmethods. Next, we describe methods that have succeeded toidentify cells in images and their performance. Finally, wereview studies that have employed cell identificationmethods to analyze the variability of cellular dynamics, cellcellcontacts and cell fate determination. Together withadvances in imaging technologies to measure moleculardynamics and computational methods to identify suchdynamics with high accuracy, the unique system of invariantembryogenesis in C. elegans will be invaluable to studydevelopmental mechanisms. Therefore, it is important tounderstand the ever developing technologies and theirresults.

집안 무용총의 묘실에서 발달한 덕흥리고분 묘실은 409년에 만들어졌으니 국내성 시절 광개토왕의 영락 연간에 축조됐음이 분명하다. 덕흥리벽화에는 몇 가지 특색이 보인다. 첫째 벽화의 관모는 고구려신하의 것이다. 각군 태수의 복식도 벽화가 그려진 시기의 것이다. 둘째,덕흥리고분과 풍소불묘의 천문도의 日·月·운기문이 같은 시기에 보이는 공통성이 있다. 셋째, 표현공간방식이 우(서)벽에서 후(북)벽으로 옮겨지는 변화가 안악3호분(357)에서 덕흥리고분의 시기 사이에 보인다. 이 변화를 통해 처음으로 사신·십이지사상, 천하관념, 통치사상이 천문사상과 결합하는 것을 알 수 있다. 안악 3호분과 덕흥리고분과의 사이에는 반세기의 시간적 흐름이 있고, 그 흐름 속에 보이는 묘실구조와 벽화도상의 변화는 고구려의 국가형성과정을 이야기하고 있음이 분명하다. Deokhung-Ri Tomb was progressed from Muyongchong was built in 409 and was belonged to the reign of Gwanggaeto the Great. There were several features in Deokhung-Ri Tomb. Firstly, official hat was drawn to portraits of the tomb mural that belonged to Goguryeo officials. Secondly, tumulus astronomical chart of Deokhung-Ri Tomb was similar with other tombs near Goguryeo area. Thirdly, space expression method was changed between Annak no.3 Tomb(357) and Deokhung-Ri Tomb(409). The space moved from west to north. It meant that ideas of ruling combined with astronomical ideas. As a result, transition of a structure of burial chamber and a mural icon between Annak no.3 Tomb and Deokhung-Ri Tomb told us a historical flow of Goguryeo formation progress.

The disease concept of interstitial lung disease with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis at its core has been relied on for many years depending on morphological classification. The separation of non-specific interstitial pneumonia with a relatively good prognosis from usual interstitial pneumonia is also based on the perception that morphology enables predict the prognosis. Beginning with dust-exposed lungs, initially, interstitial pneumonia is classified by anatomical pathology. Diagnostic imaging has dramatically improved the diagnostic technology for surviving patients through the introduction of high-resolution computed tomography scan. And now, with the introduction of therapeutics, the direction of diagnosis is turning. It can be broadly classified into to make known the importance of early diagnosis, and to understand the importance of predicting the speed of progression/deterioration of pathological conditions. For this reason, the insight of “early lesions” has been discussed. There are reports that the presence or absence of interstitial lung abnormalities affects the prognosis. Searching for a biomarker is another prognostic indicator search. However, as is the case with many chronic diseases, pathological conditions that progress linearly are extremely rare. Rather, it progresses while changing in response to environmental factors. In interstitial lung disease, deterioration of respiratory functions most closely reflect prognosis. Treatment is determined by combining dynamic indicators as faithful indicators of restrictive impairments. Reconsidering the history being classified under the disease concept, the need to reorganize treatment targets based on common pathological phenotype is under discussed. What is the disease concept? That aspect changes with the discussion of improving prognosis.
