An Intradiscal Granuloma Due to a Retained Wooden Foreign Body

Aladag, Mehmet Arif,Durak, Mehmet Akif The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2017 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.60 No.2

We report a patient with a wooden foreign body granuloma in the intervertebral disc space being symptomatic 17 years after a paraspinal penetrant trauma. According to the our result of the search for wooden foreign body granulomas, this is the first case suffered from a wooden foreign body granuloma in the intervertebral disc space that reported in the literature. In this report, we emphasized the importance of rigorous examination and follow up in paraspinal wooden penetrant traumas.

      • Modeling and Control of a Continuously Variable Transmission in a Constant Speed Power Take-Off Application

        Irmak Aladagli,Theo Hofman,Maarten Steinbuch,Bas Vroemen 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10

Traditional control design techniques like manual tuning are widely employed within the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) industry. However, manual tuning comprises of trial and error and is therefore time consuming. Moreover, the results are likely far from optimal in the sense of some predetermined set of criteria for ratio tracking performance and control effort. For such a complex dynamic system involving nonlinearity and time variance of parameters, robust control design following control oriented modelling is expected to deliver better results for both performance and control effort, faster than manual tuning; which is unjustifiably preferred for its quickness in the industry. In this paper, a manually tuned controller is designed for benchmarking the performance for a novel chain CVT application. In this application, the CVT is used in order to power an on-board generator through the internal combustion engine (ICE) of the truck; which in turn supplies power for the auxiliary consumers on the truck. In this arrangement, the task of the CVT is to convert the variable speed of the ICE into a constant speed input for the generator shaft. Such a power take-off point is called as Constant Speed Power Take-Off (CS-PTO). Moreover, steps are taken towards the modelling of the CVT system for control design. The simulation results of this model are compared to the experimental results.

In vivo wear determination of novel CAD/CAM ceramic crowns by using 3D alignment

Akın Aladag,Didem Oguz,Muharrem Erhan Çömlekoglu,Ender Akan 대한치과보철학회 2019 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.11 No.2

PURPOSE. To determine wear amount of single molar crowns, made from four different restoratives, and opposing natural teeth through computerized fabrication techniques using 3D image alignment. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 24 single crowns (N = 24 patients, age range: 18 - 50) were made from lithium disilicate (IPS E-max CAD), lithium silicate and zirconia based (Vita Suprinity CAD), resin matrix ceramic material (Cerasmart, GC), and dual matrix (Vita Enamic CAD) blocks. After digital impressions (Cerec 3D Bluecam, DentsplySirona), the crowns were designed and manufactured (Cerec 3, DentsplySirona). A dualcuring resin cement was used for cementation (Variolink Esthetic DC, Ivoclar). Then, measurement and recording of crowns and the opposing enamel surfaces with the intraoral scanner were made as well as at the third and sixth month follow-ups. All measurements were superimposed with a software (David-Laserscanner, V3.10.4). Volume loss due to wear was calculated from baseline to follow-up periods with Siemens Unigraphics NX 10 software. Statistical analysis was accomplished by Repeated Measures for ANOVA (SPSS 21) at = .05 significance level. RESULTS. After 6 months, insignificant differences of the glass matrix and resin matrix materials for restoration/enamel wear were observed (P>.05). While there were no significant differences between the glass matrix groups (P>.05), significant differences between the resin matrix group materials (P<.05) were obtained. Although Cerasmart and Enamic were both resin matrix based, they exhibited different wear characteristics. CONCLUSION. Glass matrix materials showed less wear both on their own and opposing enamel surfaces than resin matrix ceramic materials.

Cellulose Monoacetate/Tetraethyl Orthosilicate Hybrid Nanofibers for Electrochemical DNA Biosensors

        Sinem Civan,Seval Aydin,Nilay Aladag Tanik,Yakup Aykut 한국섬유공학회 2021 Fibers and polymers Vol.22 No.4

Cellulose monoacetate/tetraethyl orthosilicate (CMA/TEOS) hybrid nanofibers were produced with differentratios via electrospinning and used for guanine oxidation analysis in the single strand deoxyribonucleic acid (ssDNA)molecules by electrochemical method. Nanofiber (NF) diameters for pure CMA dramatically decreased from between 2.4 μ-306 nm to between 958-42 nm with addition of hydrochloric acid (HCl) catalyzer into the electrospinning solution. UniformCMA nanofibers morphologies transform to more defect structures containing particular structures with the addition andincrease of TEOS content in CMA electrospinning solution. Also, nanofibers' diameters range became more fluctuated formand ultrafine nanofibers (diameters below 100 nm) existed more in the nanofiber mat. Even though the melting point wasseen at CMA nanofibers, melting points were not detectable in CMA/TEOS NFs since TEOS addition does not allow anappropriate crystallization. Thermal analysis results revealed that residual contents after TGA measurement in nitrogenatmosphere were gradually increased by increasing TEOS ratio in CMA/TEOS nanofibers. ssDNA molecules were immobilizedon the as-spun nanofibers and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) measurements were carried out to investigate theguanine oxidation in ssDNA. Guanine oxidation signal intensities decreased with the initial addition of TEOS to CMAnanofibers and increases again by increasing TEOS content in CMA/TEOS hybrid nanofibers and then gradually decreasesagain with increasing TEOS content. The prepared CMA/TEOS hybrid nanofibers could be a promising candidate as anelectrode interface for genetic molecule detection via electrochemical methods.
