        Hybrid Docking-Nano-QSPR: An Alternative Approach for Prediction of Chemicals Adsorption on Nanoparticles

        In this study, a new hybrid docking-quantitative structure–property relationship (QSPR) methodology was used to model and predict the adsorption coefficients of some small organic compounds on pristine multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT). In this method, descriptors are calculated from the reproduced experimental conformations by molecular docking to develop predictive QSPR models. Three MLR models with squared correlation coefficient (R2) values of 0.93, 0.94 and 0.95 were selected. The prediction power of models was evaluated on 12-member test set, which was not used during the modeling and led to R2 values of 0.88, 0.85 and 0.93. This methodology gives new insight into factors influenced on the adsorption of nanoparticles.

        Software Defined Multihop Wireless Networks: Promises and Challenges

        In multihop wireless networks (MWNs), wireless nodescan communicate with each other through intermediate nodeswithout the help of any infrastructure. Therefore, wireless nodesare responsible for organizing and configuring the network, andthe management of the network is distributed between the nodes. Consequently, it is difficult to overcome the existing challengessuch as node mobility and dynamic topology changes, energy constraints,etc. Software defined networking (SDN) is a promisingsolution, which decouples the control plane and the data planeto overcome the challenges of traditional networks. In the SDNconcept, a logically centralized controller makes routing decisionsbased on the global view of the network and the requirements ofapplications, and then programs the network. Therefore, it helpsto optimize resource allocation and improve the network performance. In this paper, we consider the benefits and the various aspectsof applying the SDN concept in MWNs (SDMWN). We firstintroduce MWNs, existing challenges and the motivation for applyingSDN to such networks. Then, after explaining the SDN concept,we review the related work in SDMWN. Finally, we discussthe challenges in applying SDN and future research directions inthis area.

        Health-Related Quality of Life and Nutritional Status Are Related to Dietary Magnesium Intake in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Cross-Sectional Study

        An insufficient intake of magnesium may be associated with the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We aimed to determine the relationship between health related quality of life (QoL), anthropometric indices and nutritional status with dietary magnesium intake in COPD patients. Sixty-one COPD patients participated in this cross-sectional study. QoL and nutritional status were assessed. Furthermore, body composition, calf circumference, and muscle strength were measured; equations were used to calculate fat-free mass index, body mass index, and muscle mass value. Dietary magnesium intake was assessed by three 24-hours recalls and magnesium intake was categorized as ≤ 188.08 mg/day (A group) and > 188.08 mg/day (B group). The χ<sup>2</sup>, independent-sample t-test and Mann-Whitney test were used for statistical analysis. The p values less than 0.05 were considered significant. Of QoL assessments the total and impact mean scores of St. George's respiratory questionnaire in the B group were significantly lower than the means of the A group (p value = 0.007 and 0.005, respectively). The instrumental activity of daily living score was significantly improved in patients with higher consumption of dietary magnesium (p = 0.02). Participants had a significantly lower mean score of patient-generated subjective global assessment in the B group compared to the A group (p = 0.003). Higher intake of dietary magnesium can lead to improve QoL and nutrition status.

        P<sup>t</sup><sub>(ω<sub>r</sub>,s)</sub>-CLOSED SPACES AND PRE-(ω<sub>r</sub>,s)t-θ<sub>f</sub>-CLUSTER SETS

        Using (r, s)-preopen sets [14] and pre-${\omega}_t$-closures [6], a new kind of covering property $P^t_{({\omega}_r,s)}$-closedness is introduced in a bitopological space and several characterizations via filter bases, nets and grills [30] along with various properties of such concept are investigated. Two new types of cluster sets, namely pre-(${\omega}_r$, s)t-${\theta}_f$-cluster sets and (r, s)t-${\theta}_f$-precluster sets of functions and multifunctions between two bitopological spaces are introduced. Several properties of pre-(${\omega}_r$, s)t-${\theta}_f$-cluster sets are investigated and using the degeneracy of such cluster sets, some new characterizations of some separation axioms in topological spaces or in bitopological spaces are obtained. A sufficient condition for $P^t_{({\omega}_r,s)}$-closedness has also been established in terms of pre-(${\omega}_r$, s)t-${\theta}_f$-cluster sets.

        A glance into the roles of microRNAs (exosomal and non-exosomal) in polycystic ovary syndrome

        Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. The clinical symptoms include hyperandrogenism, chronic anovulation, and multiple ovarian cysts. PCOS is strongly associated with obesity and insulin resistance. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a group of short non-coding RNAs that play a role in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression and translational inhibition. They play a vital role in the regulation of multiple metabolic and hormonal processes as well as in oocyte maturation and folliculogenesis in the female reproductive system. miRNAs can be used as diagnostic biomarkers or therapeutic targets because of their stability. The encapsulation of miRNAs in extracellular vesicles or exosomes contributes to their stability. Exosomes are constantly secreted by many cells and size of about 30 to 150 nm. Enveloping miRNAs exosomes can release them for cellular communication. The induced transfer of miRNAs by exosomes is a novel process of genetic exchange between cells. Many studies have shown that along with non-exosomal miRNAs, different types of exosomal miRNAs derived from the serum and follicular fluid can play an essential role in PCOS pathogenesis. These miRNAs are involved in follicular development and various functions in granulosa cells, apoptosis, cell proliferation, and follicular atresia. The present study aimed to comprehensively review the evidence on miRNAs and their affected pathways under both non-exosomal and exosomal circumstances, primarily focusing on the pathogenesis of PCOS.

        ON SOME NEW CLASSES OF COMPACT-LIKE BITOPOLOGICAL SPACES

        In this paper, we have introduced a new type of covering property β t (ωr,s) -closedness, stronger than P t (ωr,s) -closedness [3] in terms of (r, s)-β-open sets [9] and β-ωt-closures in bitopological spaces along with its several characterizations via filter bases and grills [15] and various properties. Further grill generalizations of β t (ωr,s) -closedness (namely, β t (ωr,s) -closedness modulo grill) and associated concepts have also been investigated.

      • Efficacy of High Dose Radiotherapy in Post-operative Treatment of Glioblastoma Multiform - A Single Institution Report

        Background: Glioblastoma multiform (GBM) is a highly aggressive tumor with median survival of approximately 14 months. Management consists of maximal surgical resection followed by post-operative chemoradiation with concurrent then adjuvant temozolamide. The standard radiotherapy dose is 60Gy in 2-Gy fractions recommended by the radiation therapy oncology group (RTOG). With the vast majority of tumor recurrences occurring within the previous irradiation field and the poor outcome associated with standard therapy, regimens designed to deliver higher radiation doses to improve local control and enhance survival are needed. In this study, we report a single institutional experience in treatment of 68 consecutive patients with GBM, treated with resection, and given post-operative radiotherapy followed by concurrent and/or adjuvant chemotherapy. Results: Of the 80 patients who entered this study, 68 completed the treatment course; 45 (66.2%) males and 23 (33.8%) females with a mean age at diagnosis of $49.0{\pm}12.9$ (21-75) years. At a median follow up of 19 months, 39 (57.3%) patients had evidence of tumor progression and 36 (52.9%) had died. The median over all survival for all patients was 16 months and progression free survival for all patients was 6.02 months. All potential prognostic factors were analyzed to evaluate their effects on overall survival. Age ${\leq}50$ year, concurrent and adjuvant chemotherapy and extent of surgery had significant p values. We found lower progression rate among patients who received higher doses of radiotherapy (>60Gy). Higher radiation doses improved progression free survival (p=0.03). Despite increasing overall survival, this elevation was not significant. Conclusions: This study emphasize that higher radiation doses of (>60Gy) can improve local control and potentially survival, so we strongly advise prospective multi centric studies to evaluate the role of higher doses of radiotherapy on GBM patient outcome.
