This study aims to suggest an optimal approach to constructing an ideal special school for physically challenged children. Study results can be summarized as follows: Firstly, other nations' special schools considering characteristics of each physically challenged child from the start of planning. To the contrary, domestic special schools mainly depend on a uniform plan in accordance with relevant regulations such as 『Special School Facilities and Equipment Standards Ordinance』not reflecting characteristics of each physically challenged child to construction. Secondly, ward corridors (double corridor) are effective to special schools for visually challenged children because they can provide clear localization. Redundant corridors with segmentation available are suited for children suffering from social and emotional development problem. Circle and Star types are ideal for physically challenged children. Thirdly, since detailed standards of convenient facilities mainly focus on physically challenged children under current relevant laws and regulations, students with other kinds of troubles cannot enjoy benefits from convenient facilities. Last but not least, it is necessary to actively perform support center for special schools.

The goals of this study are to inquire into issues by classifying traffic square into three functions, evaluate traffic square from travel aspect of the underprivileged in traffic in order to assess traffic square from access, travel, and use standpoints of disabled people and senior citizens and suggest improvements of non-obstacle traffic square. The followings are the results of this study. ① For smooth travels among transportations appropriate for region where traffic square is located such as subway↔ railway↔highway, cross-country bus↔taxi↔passenger car↔bicycle, continuity of travel routes has to be secured. Also, guidance information user is able to use easily for unaccustomed roads has to be provided. ② As most of stations structures are located on underground or the ground, required to travel vertically to access into traffic square. Thus, in order to secure the rights of travel, vertical travel facility has to be installed. ③ Installation regulations on traffic square has to be provided on『Travel Convenience Promotion Law for the underprivileged of traffic』. The law provides provisions on travels facilities and roads within traffic facilities, but the law lacks in continuity as they are provided as one facility interrupted with each other. Thus, a clause on installation regulations for traffic square as a link between travel facilities and roads has to be added to the law.
도시철도 역사 환승구간의 유니버설 디자인 기준에 관한 연구

Purpose: Recently, Universal design has been applied to a variety of concepts of social integration in the national legislation and institutions, however, the applying to urban railway station is not satisfied. Most of cases, the handicapped can not work continuously, universal design must be provided. Methods: This study derives the detailed criteria through comparing and analyzing an national and international universal design-related system in transit zone. And the status is investigated in transit zone of domestic urban railway station. Improved national standard requirements are derived considering the type of the handicapped and universal design principles. Result: The domestic status shows that the most lacking entry criteria is not specified in national standards or the design is a lowest-level required by criteria through comparing detailed criteria drawn into domestic analysis. Therefore, in order to provide a pedestrian environment to meet the universal design principles and requirements for the handicapped, there is a need to re-establish with a specific national standards. Implications: This study will draw on universal design standards for seamless transfer in transit zone of urban railway station. The next studies are needed to target the overall paths ranging from outside to landing in urban railway station.

Purpose : The guidelines of establishing convenience facilities for the handicapped have not consistently been provided to the identical criteria in walking facilities. Thus, transportation poor had difficulties in walking environment. Method : This study aims to suggest the practical direction of guidelines of establishing tactile walking surface indicators. To do this, this study examines the problems of the current guidelines for establishing facilities, and then analyzes international criteria, with comparing criteria used in German. Therefore, findings from those analyses can provide the secure and convenient environment for walking to transportation users, in particular blind and vision-impaired people, the handicapped, the child, and the elderly and the weak. Results : For the improvement of tactile walking surface indicators, the clear criteria of establishing tactile walking surface indicators is proposed, considering the characteristics of walking environment. Then, the sample items corresponding to the various situations need to be exemplified. To provide more secure environment walking for transportation poor, the establishing criteria partially adopted ideas from Universal Design also need to be developed. Implication : The proposed detail drawing of tactile walking surface indicators need to be tested by transportation users due to high safety in walking circumstance, and also the guidelines of continuously maintaining tactile walking surface indicators also needs to be studied.

Although the『The Law Related to Guarantee of Promoting Convenience for Handicapped, Elderly and Pregnant Women』 enacted in 1997 has become effective to install raised blocks which is convenient facility for blind people at sidewalks and buildings, the reality is that there's a serious need of groundwork research such as the analysis of its usage because its actual usage is low, there are many instances of installing wrong convenient facilities that aren't helpful in promoting convenience of disabled and many wasteful factors exist such as the low investment effect compared to expenses. Also, the reality is that the raised block itself made for the blind becomes a hindering factor for non-disabled or other types of handicapped people and its effectiveness hasn't been verified even for blind people. Therefore, we are at a point where its accurate verification and considerations have to be accomplished. Although the raised blocks aren't very effective and suitable for blind people to walk independently in present circumstances for installation, the installation is necessary for few users who are in desperate need while the "the principle of securing safe areas" and "warning-centered installation method" would have to be improved progressively in order to add safety and effectiveness to the installation site and the method.

Purpose: The number of the transportation poor has been steadily increased, and also the social perspective toward the disabled has been changed. Thus, Universal Design has been needed. In particular, the unknown majority of the transportation poor have frequently used the urban railway facilities which should reflect the ideals and principles of Universal Design. However, previous research has not focused on the study on critical factors of Universal Design. Based on this observation, the present study aims to find out Universal Design critical factors of urban railway station. Methods: This study explores the criteria of planning Universal Design in the urban railway station by analyzing and comparing the similar criteria used in both domestic areas and foreign countries. Result: Findings from this study are as follows. First, we found out the critical factors of Universal Design in the urban railway station by comparing and analyzing the similar criteria previously used. Second, this study also suggests the better directions toward the domestic criteria relating to the urban railway system. Third, we found the need of the universal standard as well as individually corresponding strategy. Moreover, we found the need of preparing the critical factors for the physical environments as well as the human service. Implications: The further research on findings of the planning criteria will have been continued on the basis of findings of the present study.
주거 내 장애유형별 생활행위 특성에 따른 개조 실태에 관한 연구

Practically, housing buildings planned in Korea have had target of people who are in good physical health rather than the disabled. Because of this, it is difficult to cope actively with the offering high quality residential environment for the elderly and disabled. In order to live in their own houses continuing, it is necessary to alter the house where they have been lived. The residential alteration is the essential factor that guarantee living like a human being and enable independent living. Therefore, the purpose of this study is providing the basic data needed for residential alteration throughout the resident’s research on the actual condition about satisfaction and the level of demand. Also the research is considered the type of disability and characteristic of the living behavior. In this study, the ways of further development which are demands according to types of disability and Behavior Characteristics, the frequency of remodeling and parts of environment improvement, the problems of remodeling have been investigated.
