This paper reports the results of subjective to clarify the effect of angular distribution of the late arriving sound on listener envelopment(LEV) in concert halls. Two subjective experiments, using sound fields simulated in an anechoic room, were conducted. The first experiment was intended to examine whether LEV is only influenced by the relative level of late lateral energy(LG^∞_(80))or not, while LG was kept constant. The second experiment was an investigation of the effects on LEV, varied the late arriving sound level which direction of arrival were lateral, front, vertical, rear. The results indicated that LEV is affected by other direction late arriving energy, with constant LG and there are significant effect on perceived LEV, varying late arriving sound level and direction of arrival.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between the direction of reverberant sound and listener envelopment. IACC was adopted as the objective index of listener envelopment in order to investigate whether or not listener envelopment is perceived equally in two kinds of sound fields with horizontal or vertical reverberation. We found that listener envelopment is more affected by vertical reverberation rather than horizontal one.
