This article describes verticsal dimension in its histologic and clinical aspect. Determination of correct vertical dimension of occlusion is one of the most important steps in prosthodontic rehabilitation. It is considered essential for improvement of facial esthetics and stomatognatic functions. Many techniques have been sued for measurement of the vertical dimension in dentulous and edentulous patients : pre-extraction record, physiologic rest position, swallowing, phonetics, esthetics, etc. But, there is no universally accepted or completely accurate method. Though a great deal of energy has been spent trying to find the exact position of the mandible, there is an controversial aspect of vetical dimension.

Ⅰ In these days, the pattern of war has changed into the national total war that is material war according to rapid development of military weapon and equipment. As a result, in war time, all nations have to mobilize all national powers to accomplish war efforts, which are different from that of traditional military war. Hence, it can be safely said that the planning in democratic states for turning steeply the national planning system of peace time into that of war time, would be just today`s war planning system. All the institutions of state are mobilized and the affairs have become very complicated, because the war planning has to the combined and employed national resources totally at the war time. Highly advanced skill and backed-up theory are necessary for the planning to perform functions of the national institutions. This essay is concerned with theory of war planning. Ⅱ The scope of this paper may be summarized as follows. 1) In studying the general concept of war planning and its history, the importance of the war planning with introducing the development process of war planning in the main countries of the world, and examining closely the concept of war planning was emphasized here. 2) In studying the war planning system, the theoretical system was established by dividing the scope of war planning into the system of political and economy conduct in the war time. 3) In process and principle of war planning, its step, procedure, in establishing war planning and the main factors to be considered are explained. 4) In studying the development course of the war planning of Korea, I proposed objectives in war planning of Korea, faced with threat of North Korea at all times. Ⅲ From the point of view of war planning, it is necessary for any country to prepare the posture that they can convert into national war system at all times against enemy. For this purpose, we should establish war planning system in the peace time, in advance, and turn to the war system rapidly and effectively to minimize the sacrifice of the people in the war time. With these circumstances, it is war planning to do her best for the complete victory. Especially, I would like to put a strong emphasis on the establishment of war planning on the firm bases of political conduct as a sovereign state.

Ⅰ "The conduct of war" pertains to those means by which a nation can concentrate its national power and fully employ it to achieve its national objectives. It also deals with the importance of strong, national leadership as an element of national power. In modern times, the variety of war which only involved simple competition of arms no longer exists. Instead, there is total war, and it is difficult to distinguish peace from wartime status because of the continuing national threat. Also, the variety of threats from domestic and foreign sources constitutes an immeasurable factor. Considering the modern world situation as described above, it is difficult to take immediate action to employ concentrated national power in war without well-prepared plans to meet a variety of national emergencies. Hence, the problems of vulnerability generated by the dispersed power of the democartic nations during wartime must be illuminated. In order to accomplish national objectives in war, it is axiomatic that a nation must form a unified, strong organization and employ national strength 100% by totally mobilizing the political, economic; sociopsychological, and military instruments. In studying the problems inherent to "the Conduct of War," we must be sure that they are the ones germane to the particular situation of each individual nation. The distinctive development of a method to condet war demands that it be made with full consideration of the actual status. The increasing demand for research and study on the most effective method for conducting war in this modern world environment has spurred me to undertake this essay. Ⅱ This essay consists of three main parts and the content are as follows: In the introduction, I described the prupose, scope, and the method of my study. First, I described back ground theory on the conduct of war and detailed contents are the definition importance, pattern of war conduct, defense system and modern war patterns that are basic elements of the conduct of war. Second, I described the general principle on the conduct of war. It includes the conduct of war in the preparation, in opening, in war, in the close steps, and after the war. Third, I mentioned the basic direction of modern war, stating mainly trend and prospect, and judged the conducting direction of war. III I state as my conclusion that no nation can effectively pursue a war involving true national emergency by force of arms alone. Instead, I state as a principle of conducting war that effective employment of total national power is necessary. The successful conclusion of a war in the modern context can only be accomplished with the certain establishment of firm national goals which are in concordance with true national interests. In determining national interests, one must objectively take into consideration the domestic and foreign situations, the national political system and the particular ideology guiding the nation-state. Accordingly, the core principle of the Conduct of War demands the establishment of firm national goals with decisions based upon sound national policy. Commensurate with this is the necessity for broad judgement powers and the capacity for positive decision-making inherent in the person occupying the top-leadership position of the nation.
