These studies were carried out to identify anatomical characteristics of ray parenchyma of xylem tissue of trunk in 6 species of Populus and 5 species of Salix which were grown in Korea. The results of these experiments were summarized as follows: In the type of ray parenchyma, Populus had uniseriate homogeneous ray tissue and Sahx had uniseriate heterogeneous ray tissue. Upright ray cells among uniseriate heterogeneous ray tissue in Salix were subdivided into rectangular type and square type. The minimum and maximum length of procumbent ray cells of Populus ranged 26.84 - 212.28μ and those of Salix were 46.36 - 170.80μ. However rectangular type of upright ray cell n Salix were 26.84 - 70.76μ and square type were 17.08 -43.92μ. The minimum and maximum width of procumbent ray cells of Populus ranged 12.20 - 24.40μ but those of Salix were 12.20 - 26.84μ. However, rectangular type of upright ray cell in Salix were 9.76 - 41.48μ and square type were 19.52-46.36μ. The height of ray parenchyma of Populus in tangential section ranged 65.88-14.80μ but Salix were 65.88-439.20μ. Ray parenchyma width of Populus ranged 4.88-24.40μ but those of Salix were 7.32-21.96μ. The number of ray parenchyma cells of Populus in tangential section were 3-26 cell, but Salix were 2-21 cells.

These experiments were carried out to investigate anatomical properties of Forsythia in Korea. The results obtained were summarized as follows: It was estimated that the vessel of cross section was almost simple pore and multiple pores which were compounded two or three units were showed sometimes and arrangement of vessel were ring porous wood. In the mean length of vessel, Forsythia koreana was ranged 539.98 ±154.71μ and Forsythia ovata 602.22 ± 157.38μ and Forsythia nakaii T. Lee 465.50 ±83.02μ. In the mean length of fiber wood, Forsythia koreana 387.40 ± 68.23μ, and Forsythia ovata was 533.90 ± 106.77μ and Forsythia nakaii T. Lee was 482.40 ± 72.33μ. The type of Ray parenchyma was heterogeneous ray I tissue. The mean length of procumbent ray cell in the radial section was 42.14 ± 8.30μ and that of rectangle type in up right ray cell was 45.76 ± 7.19μ and that of square type was 26.66 ± 2.99μ. The mean height of ray parenchyma in the tangential section was 174.80 ± 37.51μ and the width of ray parenchyma was 17.25 ± 3.59u and the mean number of ray parenchyma was 14 ± 3.
