        鄭光,韓相權 德成女子大學校 1985 德成女大論文集 Vol.14 No.-

The scope of this paper centers around the discussion in details of the changes on the Sayon-won and its textbooks in the historical point of view. Sayog-won was the Official Language Institute of Yi-dynasty, which originated from T'ong-mum-gwan, Hano-togam, and Sayog-won in Koryo dynasty. And it did not only administrate the official interpreters who werved the translation of foreign languages but also teach the foreign languages to the students, mainly Chinese, Mongolian, Janpanese, and Jurchen of Manchurian language. Sayog-won was established almost the same time with the foundation of Yi-dynasty. But the officers organization of it had been changed according to the reform of government organization and the changes of international relations or the foreign policy of Yi-dynasty. The examination system for selecting the official interpreters had been changed according to the kinds of foreign language and the number of their interpreters. We considered in this paper the reform of official interpreters' position in Sayon-won, seperatedly from the executive position, the military position, and the attendants position of mission mainly to China. The examination for selecting the official interpseters can be classified three: the national examination, the examination of the Institute, and the periodical test for students at the Institute. We considered their historical changes and the purpose of each examination. The most extensive reform of Sayon-won organization occurred after two wars against Japanese and Manchurian invaders during 17∼18th centuries. The textbooks used in Sayon-won are not only very useful for studies on the history of Korean language but also for studies of pertinent languages. The historical changes of the textbooks can be considered divided three periods. The textbooks in first period had been published since 13th century to the "Kyongguk-taejon", a great code of law in Yi-dynasty, which was published in 1470 A.D. The second period is since "Kyongguk0taejon" to "Sok-taejon", a continued great code of law, which was published in 1744, and third period since "Sok-taejon" to the end of Yi-dynasty. The most of the textbooks used during first period were those edited by foreigners for the purpose of teaching their own languages to the children. But the textbooks used in second period were gpublished in Yi-dynasty and edited by the interpreters in Sayog-won. They were textbooks for teaching coloquial languages in accordance with the respective missions of interpreters. In the third period, Sayon-won revised and reformed all the textbooks used in the second period. We considered the relationship among the textbooks which were used in each period. And we tried to elucidate the main trends of the changes of the textbooks.
