The current information society is based on the computer networks. Thus, computer-mediated communication skills are widely used in the field of teaching and learning as well as in administrative and business transactions. At various levels of school education, we need a new model for instruction and learning through the medium of computer. However, the computer-mediated education(CME) differs fundamentally from the traditional classroom instruction. While traditional class activities are usually conducted under the leadership of the instructor, CME places the learner at the very center of learning process. This paper explores how, under the guidance of the instructor, the computer networks can be used creatively and systematically by the participants of the collaborative on-line learning groups. Particularly discussed here is how Social Constructivist Theory explains the process of information sharing and knowledge building among academic debate groups when they interact on-line.
