빛 디자인 개념을 적용한 불교조각 전시 공간 디자인에 관한 연구

(연구배경 및 목적)우리 불교조각에 대한 이해는 종교의 예배대상을 넘어 우리문화의 기반을 이해하는 학술적, 예술적 자료로 활용될 수 있다. 불교조각 전시는 불상이라는 매개체를 공간 안에 재현함으로써 예술품을 감상하게 하고, 불교 교리를 전하는 역할 뿐만 아니라 관람자로 하여금 감정적이고 예술적인 특별한 체험을 제공하는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구는 불교조각의 올바른 이해와 상징적 의미 전달을 위해 빛 디자인의 개념을 정립하고 종교적 공간 표현을 연구하여 전시 공간 연출에 대입할 수 있는 자료를 제시하는데 목적이 있다. (연구방법)이에 본 연구는 불교조각에 대한 기본적 이해와 불교조각에서 빛이 가지는 의미를 짚어보고, 빛 디자인과 상징적 공간의 디자인 표현 요소에 대해 고찰할 것이다. 선행 연구와 사례 분석을 통해 도출된 디자인 요소를 종합하여 불교조각 전시연출 요소로서 빛 디자인 표현 특성을 연구 하고자 한다. 빛 디자인 개념이 적용된 종교 공간 및 전시공간 여섯 곳을 분석하여 각 공간이 가지고 있는 강점과 개선해야 할 특성을 분석하여 향후 빛 특성을 활용한 우리나라 불교조각전시 공간 디자인을 위한 기초자료로 제시하고자 한다. (결과)분석 결과, 공간에 의미를 부여하는 빛 디자인 요소는 체험성, 상징성, 심미성, 장소성, 인지성으로 압축되었다. 상징적 공간 연출을 위한 디자인 요소로는 상징성, 기능성, 장소성, 전이성, 심미성순으로 나타났다. 위의 특성을 중심으로 불교조각 전시공간과 같은 상징적 공간에 적용하는 빛 디자인 요소를 도출하면 체험성, 상징성, 장소성, 심미성으로 종합된다. 사례를 분석하면 전시 공간에 잘 적용되고 있는 요소는 체험성과 상징성이고, 다소 부족한 요소는 심미성과 장소성이다. (결론)이는 불교조각 전시공간에서 심미성과 장소성을 적극적으로 도입하여 관람자가 특별한 감정적 변화와 체험을 할 수 있도록 유도하여야 하며 이를 통해 전시 연출의 조형적 측면도 강조해야 함을 알 수 있으며, 본 연구가 향후 빛을 활용한 불교조각 전시연출을 위한 기초연구로 기여하기를 바란다. (Background and Purpose) Korean Buddhist sculptures may be used as academic and artistic references for understanding the Korean culture. It is important that Buddhist art exhibitions provide audiences with artistic and religious experiences through formative languages, which are intended to guide people. Because religious sculptures are created to authenticate the existence of deities, light has been used to convey the concepts of holiness and power to audiences. Consequently, this research was undertaken to examine elements of lighting design and symbolic space design and integrate common elements for maximizing exhibition effects and an understanding of Buddhist sculpture exhibits. (Method) Therefore, this research represents an examination of general understandings regarding Buddhist sculptures and the meaning of light in Buddhist art. Further, theoretical studies on lighting design and an analysis of the design elements used frequently in symbolic space design for religious and exhibition spaces were conducted. The drawn elements were analyzed collectively to identify common elements in space designs for Buddhist sculpture exhibits. (Results) The theoretical analysis reveals the most common lighting design elements, which give meanings to spaces: experientiality, symbolism, aesthetics, placeness, and recognition. Design elements for symbolic spaces are symbolism, function, placeness, connection, and aesthetics. Overall, the elements of each area can be combined and analyzed as experientiality, symbolism, placeness, and aesthetics. In case studies, exhibition spaces have strong experientiality and symbolism, but they are weak in the areas of aesthetics and placeness. Typically, exhibit spaces are designed to create strong experience elements and symbolic scenes for a broad audience; they are not intended to express lopsided religious elements in the gallery areas. (Conclusions) From this study, it was determined that exhibit spaces for Buddhist sculptures must incorporate the active use of lighting design to express strong aesthetics and placeness that maximize the audience experience; these elements come from unique expressions of symbolism and experience.
