Synthesis and characterization of UV curable urethane acrylate oligomer for anti-fogging coatings

UV-curable urethane acrylate oligomer (UV-UAO) containing quaternary ammonium salt for anti-fogging coating was synthesized. The expected UV-UAO structure was confirmed by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. The UV-UAO was then formulated with reactive diluents and photoinitiator to form coating formulas. Polycarbonate and glass substrates were coated with these formulas and cured under UV exposure to obtain transparent coatings with good adhesion and hardness. The anti-fog properties of UV-cured coating were investigated by contact angle test and anti-fog test. The results showed that the concentration of UV-UAO in coating formulation had a great influence on the anti-fog properties of UV-cured coating. In addition, the results revealed that the coatings showed good mechanical properties, excellent optical transparency and superior anti-fog performance.

The characterization of UV curable contact lens containing Self-photoinitiating silicon acrylate (SPISA) and Hyperbranched acrylate (HBA) has been investigated using a full factorial design. A full factorial design was used with SPISA (4%, 12%) and HBA (1%, 6%) as two factors. It was planned with ten experimental points, including two replicates for SPISA and HBA with center point. The results show that the concentration of SPISA and HBA are the most effective factors affecting photo curing conversion, water contents, contact angle and tensile strength of UV curable contact lens. As a result of statistical analysis, the sample containing 8wt% of SPISA and 3.5wt% of HBA showed the best results for UV curable contact lens.
