This paper proposes a method to estimate DC motor angular velocity by measuring motor terminal voltage and<br/> motor current in order to implement damping logic equipped with EPS(Electric Power Steering). The proposed<br/> method consists of hardware and software. To prove the linearity of estimation, the rig test is performed. Test results<br/> showed that DC motor angular velocity data estimated from the proposed method can be used in damping logic.

A new electric power steering was developed which uses an electric motor to provide assistance power. The system includes latest motor drive and system design technologies because of hard operating environmental conditions. The development has aims that are substituting the conventional hydraulic power steering, having higher efficiency and increasing active stability. This paper describes the motor driver design strategies and outlines the components and control ideas. The REPS (Rack-assist Electric Power Steering System) is tested on a front wheel drive vehicle.
