        청주,청원 지역 일부 청소년의 기능성 식품 섭취 실태 및 관련 교육에 대한 태도

        This study was to investigate use of functional foods and attitude on related education among adolescents. Subjects of this study were a total of 826 students in middle and high schools of Cheongju and Cheongwon area. Among the subjects, 44.8% had an experience in consuming functional foods. Among the subjects that experienced side effects possibly by the consumption of functional foods, 13.0% ignored the symptom and continued to consume the foods. Approximately one third of the subject(30.7%) obtained information on functional foods from their parents; however, few subjects(2.2%) obtained the information from the nutrition teachers or dietitians of their schools. Only 9.4% of the subjects underwent education related with functional foods, and 35.1% of the subjects demanded education on functional foods. The present study suggests that an effective education is needed for both students and their parents in order to prevent adolescents from the misuse of functional foods.

        충북지역 일부 학교 영양(교)사의 건강기능식품에 대한 인식 및 교육 요구

        We investigated perception and educational demand for health functional foods among nutrition teachers and dietitians working in schools. The subjects were 229 nutrition teachers (57.2%) and dietitians (42.7%) working in Chungbuk elementary, middle and high schools. Approximately 67% of the subjects had experience consuming health functional foods. Most of the subjects did not have experience with the side effects after consuming health functional foods. Subjects who were unaware of the legal specifications, classification, and labeling standards for health functional foods (78-91.2%) were much more common than those who were aware of those issues. Most of the subjects perceived health functional foods as a food (45.0%) or as a product between a food and a medicine (44.5%). The subjects recommended themselves (43.1%) or medical doctors/pharmacists (40.8%) as consultation/education specialists for health functional foods. Approximately 66% of the subjects had experience conducting nutritional consultation/education in their schools, but only 3.2% had experience with health functional foods. Only 17.8% of the subjects had experience receiving education on health functional foods. Most subjects (88.2%) demanded education on health functional foods for themselves. The results suggest that an effective education is needed for nutrition teachers and dietitians working in schools for them to play an active role in educating students and their parents about health functional foods in the near future.

      • 초등학교 고학년 조리실습 교육을 통한 학생 인식 및 실습태도 변화

        The present study aimed to investigate changes of perception and attitude by culinary practice in upper elementary students. Educational contents of the culinary practice were developed by the nutrition teacher of the elementary school. Subjects of this study were a total of 170 elementary students (4th grade 28.2%, 5th grade 37.1%, 6th grade 34.7%; male 53.0%, female 47.0%) in Cheongju, Chungbuk. Major findings of this study are: 1) subjects preferred culinary practice to other experimental practice; 2) subjects considered nutrition teachers as the most appropriate educator for culinary practice; 3) after the culinary practice was performed, subjects scored interest, performance, and understanding on the practice higher than they scored before the practice was performed. The present study suggest that the culinary practice developed and educated by nutrition teachers is an effective way to improve perception and attitude of upper elementary students on the culinary practice as well as educational roles of nutrition teachers.

      • β-Sitosterol이 HCT116 대장암세포의 콜로니형성 및 부착성에 미치는 효과

        β-Sitosterol is the most abundant phytosterol present ubiquitously in plants. The aim of the current study was to investigate the inhibitory effects of β-sitosterol on colony formation and adhesion in HCT116 human colon cancer cells. β-Sitosterol significantly inhibited cell growth (to 50-89% of the control by the concentrations of 25-100 μM; p<0.01) and effectively changed nuclear morphology (by the concentration of 50 μM) in HCT116 cells. These results confirm previous findings on the growth-inhibitory and apoptosis-inducing activities of β-sitosterol in different cancer cell lines. Treatment with β-sitosterol resulted in significant inhibition of both colony formation (to 29% of the control by the concentration of 50 μM) and adhesion (to 44-54% of the control by the concentration of 25-100 μM) in HCT116 cells. These results suggest that β -sitosterol might modulate the self-renewal capacity of colon cancer stem cells as well as invasion and metastasis during colon carcinogenesis. More in-depth studies are needed in order to verify such actions and to elucidate underlying mechanisms.

      • 들깨의 볶음처리가 헥산 추출유의 항산화 성분함량 및 활성에 미치는 영향

        The aim of the current study was to investigate the effect of roasting on antioxidant contents and activities of perilla seed oil extracted by n-hexane. The total polyphenol level of roasted perilla seed extract (RP; 27.1 mg gallic acid equivalent/100 g) was similar to that of unroasted perilla seed extract (UP; 29.4 mg gallic acid equivalent/100 g). The total flavonoid level of RP (42.2 mg quercetin equivalent/100 g) was higher than that of unroasted perilla seed extract (UP; 31.1 mg quercetin equivalent/100 g; p<0.05). The radical scavenging activity and ferric reducing antioxidant power of RP at the concentration of 350 μg/mL was 30.9%, and 13.1%, respectively, which were higher than the corresponding levels of UP (27.6% and 7.4%, respectively; p<0.05). These results indicate that roasting is effective in increasing the total flavonoid content and antioxidant activities of perilla seed oil extracted by n-hexane.

      • 영화관에서 판매되는 스낵 및 음료에 대한 충북지역 일부 대학생의 인식

        The present study aimed to investigate perception on snacks and drinks sold in movie theaters among college students in Chungbuk area. The subjects were a total of 231 students including 92 males and 139 females. Both snack and drink consumption sores of male students were higher than those of female students, indicating that male students consumed snacks and drinks sold in movie theater more frequently than female students. The subjects tended to perceive that the amount of snacks and drinks sold in movie theater was not sufficient although they perceived that the calories, sodium, and sugar content were high, and such tendency was more pronounced in male students. The need of female students for nutrition labeling of snacks and drinks sold in movie theater was greater than that of male students. The subjects considered that the sodium content of foods did not affect them to choose foods much. Most of the subjects were not aware of sodium reduction campaign conducted by Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, but the awareness rate of the subjects that had an experience of receiving food and nutrition-related education was higher than that of the subjects that did not have such experience. The present study suggests that effective education courses or programs are needed for college students to improve their understanding on high calory- and sodium-containing foods and the usefulness of nutritional labeling.

      • 암 예방에 대한 20대 성인의 인식

        The present study aimed to investigate recognition of adults in their 20's on cancer prevention. Subjects of the study were a total of 322 adults in their 20's in Korea. Major findings of this study were as follows: 1) the knowledge on cancer and its preventive diets were scored to relatively high level, 10.1 out of 13 points and 8.2 out of 10 points, respectively; 2) the interest on cancer prevention and cancer preventive diet were scored to 3.1 points (out of 5 points) and 3.5 points (out of 5 points), respectively; 3) 41.9% of the subjects thought their efforts for cancer prevention should be made since their 20's, but only 14.9% of the subjects thought their effort should be made during entire lifetime; 3) the demand for the education on cancer preventive diets was scored to high level (4.1 out of 5 points); 4) the subjects preferred 'medical doctors' most (male 72.0%, female 66.3%) as the educator for the education program on cancer preventive diets. The present study suggests that effective educational programs on cancer prevention are needed for adults in their 20's in order to improve their understanding on cancer prevention and cancer preventive diet.

      • 토코페롤의 대장암세포 성장, 침윤, 부착에 대한 억제 효과

        The aim of the study was to investigate the inhibitory effects of different forms of tocopherols (T) on cell growth, invasion, and attachment in HCT116 human colon cancer cells. Treatment with γ-T and δ-T significantly inhibited cell growth (by 58.1-97.8% at the concentrations of 50-100 μM), invasion (by 49.4-87.0% at the concentrations of 20-80 μM), and attachment (by 28.2-75.4% at the concentrations of 50-100 μM). α-T, however, did not exhibit such inhibitory activities. δ-T was more active than γ-T in inhibiting cell attachment at the effective concentrations (p<0.05). These studies demonstrated the inhibitory activities of γ-T and δ-T against cell growth, invasion and attachment in HCT116 cells. More studies are needed in order to elucidate detailed mechanisms for the inhibitory action of γ-T and δ-T.

      • 충북지역 일부 여성결혼이민자의 한식에 대한 인식 및 교육 요구

        This study was to investigate perception on Korean foods and demand for the related educational program among married female immigrants. Subjects of this study were a total of 190 married female immigrants residing in Chungbuk. Major findings of this study are as follows: 1) Both of the recognition and preference for most of the Korean foods and cooking methods were scored to moderate to high level, but the actual use of Korean foods was scored to relatively low level; 2) The subjects who had been residing for longer than 5 years in Korea showed a tendency of obtaining information on Korean foods from internet or friends/neighbors rather than obtaining such information by attending an educational program in regional public centers; 3) The subjects that had an experience in attending an educational program on Korean foods were more than those that did not have such an experience (66.1% versus 39.9%). The demand of the subjects for the education was scored to high level (4.2 out of 5 points), but their will for attending education programs (3.8 out of 5 points) was not scored as high as their demand. The present study suggests that effective offline and online educational programs on Korean foods are needed for married female immigrants in order to increase their use of Korean foods and improve their understanding on Korean foods.
