A conceptualization methodology for engineering design based on hierarchy and corelation structure is presented and applied for data logger development in this paper. During the problem definition phase, design criteria and functional requirements are defined using objectives tree method which is drawn after refining customer requirements. And the relationship matrix between them is composed, where the objectives are divided into subgroups according to their principal attributes. The system component decomposition and function analysis for data logger are carried out to derive functional requirements. To develop the design alternatives a morphological chart is made, in which various design concepts for functional requirements are positioned satisfying design objectives and constraints. This methodology is under utilization for related product development and shows sufficient validity and effectiveness.
