This paper presents a novel method to retrieve segmented video shots based on their color content. The Temporal Color Correlogram captures the spatio-temporal relationship of colors in a video shot using co-occurrence statistics. The Temporal Color Correlogram extended the HSV Color Correlogram that has been found to be very effective in content-based image retrieval. Temporal Color Correlograms compute the autocorrelation of Quantized HSV color values from a set of frame samples taken from a video shot. In this paper, the efficiency of the Temporal Color Correlogram and HSV Color Correlograms are evaluated against other retrieval systems participating the TREe Video track evaluation and against color histograms used commonly in content-based retrieval. We used Queries and relevance judgements on the 11 hours of segmented :MPEG-l video provided to track participants. Tests are executed using our Content-Based multimedia Retrieval System that was specifically developed for multimedia information retrieval applications.

This paper describes a method for recognition of continuous facial expression change from time-sequential images. The methods is composed of two parts, (1) facial feature tracking by using a labeled graph matching with weighted links and (2) facial expression recognition by making a comparison between the trajectory of features and the expression change model. The expression change model is constructed by using B-spline curves, which represent the relationship between the motion of facial features and the change of expression. Not only the type, but also the degree of expression change can be recognized. Futhermore, the obtained expressional information is then fed back to guide the tracing in the next frame.

The effects of coating parameters were investigated in wear resistance coatings of Diamalloy-406 on Inconel 718 to obtain an optimum coating condition by high velocity oxy-fuel spraying. The coating parameters, the flow rates of source gases (hydrogen and oxygen), the powder feed rate, and the spray distance, were designed by the Taguchi method. The optimal conditions were determined: oxygen flow rate 34 FRM, hydrogen flow rate 57 FRM, powder feed rate 35 g/min, and spray distance 7 inch. Friction coefficients of the coating and the substrate decreased with an increasing sliding surface temperature from $25^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$. The friction coefficient of Diamalloy-4006 coating decreased as the sliding surface temperature increased from $0.43{\pm}0.01$ at $25^{\circ}C$ to $0.29{\pm}0.01$ at $450^{\circ}C$. The wear trace and wear depth of the coating were smaller than the substrate at all temperatures tested. The relationship between spray parameters and wear resistance was discussed extensively, based on the measured roughness, hardness, and porosity in each coating.
