Solution phase synthesis of amyloid-cleaving catalysts, two [1,3,5]triazine based compounds
정근홍,Min Kyum Kim,Woo Young Chung,Young Sik Kye,Ji-Hyun Kim,Junghun Suh 한국공업화학회 2009 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.15 No.3
Solution phase synthetic method for amyloid-cleaving catalysts was developed, which bears triazine core, scaffold with bulky and that have various solubility properties; Co(III) complex of cyclen (1,4,7,10- tetraazacyclododecane) for catalytic group, and two imaging agents for binding group. This synthetic method was identified by H-NMR, C-NMR for intermediates and MS for the last products. The yields by this method surpassed solid phase synthesis and took much lower labor, expense, and time. The products which were synthesized by solution phase synthetic method showed good catalytic activities.

Theoretical investigation on toxic and hazardous materials can render the safe access on the unveiling the physical and chemical properties. Through the quantum calculations, several important properties in estimating the toxicity of nerve agents were investigated and proved its successful applications. Through this talk, our on-going efforts on the theoretical researches over the assessing the toxicity and harmfulness of nerve agents will be introduced.
Conformational Preferences of Glycerol in the Gas Phase and in Water
정근홍,변병진,강영기 대한화학회 2012 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.33 No.3
The conformational study of glycerol has been carried out using the M06-2X/cc-pVTZ level of theory in the gas phase and the SMD M06-2X/cc-pVTZ level of theory in water in order to understand its conformational preferences and solvation effects. Most of the preferred conformers of glycerol have two C5 hydrogen bonds in the gas phase, as found by the analysis of calorimetric data. It has been known that the solvation drove the hydrogen bonds of glycerol to be weaker and its potential surface to be fatter and that glycerol exists as an ensemble of many feasible local minima in water. The calculated populations of glycerol in the gas phase and in water are consistent with the observed values, which are better than the previously calculated ones at the G2(MP2), CBS-QB3, and SM5.42 HF/6-31G(d) levels of theory.
Minireview on Nuclear Spin Polarization in Optically-Pumped Diamond Nitrogen Vacancy Centers
정근홍 한국자기공명학회 2016 Journal of the Korean Magnetic Resonance Society Vol.20 No.4
Nitrogen vacancy-centered diamond has recently emerged as a promising material for various applications due to its special optical and magnetic properties. In particular, its applications as a fluorescent biomarker with small toxicity, magnetic field and electric field sensors have been a topic of great interest. Recent review1 (R. Schirhagl et al 2014) introduced those applications using single NV-center in nanodiamond. In this minireview, I introduce the rapidly emerging DNP (Dynamic Nuclear Polarization) field using optically-pumped NV center in diamonds. Additionally, the possibility of exploiting the optically-pumped NV center for polarization transfer source, which will produce a profound impact on room temperature DNP, will be discussed.

Theoretical study can provide extensive information which are based on the understanding the electron population and bonding. This field of study makes it possible to overcome the risk situation of dealing with the dangerous materials. Especially, density functional theory (DFT) study can render valuable information on the molecular level structure, investigating the various properties of molecules, and even toxicity. We performed the extensive calculations on the Novichok candidates and we succeeded in unveiling the dreadful toxicity of Novichok nerve agent.
