Effect of Food Deprivation on a Delayed Nonmatch-to-place T-maze Task
2013 Experimental Neurobiology Vol.22 No.2
Food deprivation can affect performance on difficult cognitive task, such as the delayed nonmatch-to-place T-maze task (DNMT). The importance of food deprivation on maintaining high motivation for DNMT task has been emphasized, but not many studies have investigated the optimal conditions for depriving rodents to maximize performance. Establishing appropriate conditions for food deprivation is necessary to maintain DNMT task motivation. We applied different conditions of food deprivation (1-h food restriction vs. 1.5-g food restriction; single caging vs. group caging) and measured body weight and the number of correct choices that 8-week-old C57BL/6J mice made during the DNMT task. The 1.5-g food restriction group maintained 76.0±0.6% of their initial body weight, but the final body weight of the 1-h food restriction condition group was reduced to 62.2±0.8% of their initial body weight. These results propose that 1.5-g food restriction condition is effective condition for maintaining both body weight and motivation to complete the DNMT task.

The purpose of this study was to examine what kind of strategies personal trainers use in order to acquire members for personal training in the ever-increasing competition of fitness centers, and explore the social implications of these strategies. As such, we have selected 6 personal trainers who are currently working in a fitness center by using purposeful sampling. The data were collected through unstructured and semi-structured in-depth interviews and other related data, and the collected data were analyzed by textual analysis. The results of this study were as follows. It was shown that personal trainers use strategies such as decorate at good feeling, using personal affinity, creating a professional image, doing self-promotion through SNS and etc. in order to acquire members. Examining this from a social perspective, it implies the principle of capital investment to acquire capital, as well as the ‘wag the dog’ phenomenon in personal trainers.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships of emotional reaction to cognitive ability and cognitive level in dance- for-all participants. First, as a result of analyzing the impact of the emotional reactions of the dance-for-all participants on their cognitive ability, their emotional reactions were found to have affected cognitive ability. Second, as a result of analyzing the impact of the emotional reactions of the dance-for-all participants on cognitive level, their emotional reactions were found to have affected cognitive level. Third, the emotional reactions of the dance-for-all participants had casual relationships with cognitive ability and cognitive level. As the findings of the study show, the dance-for-all participants negatively responded when a theoretical approach was taken to dance for all, but they positively responded to physical, sensory and emotional reactions. Those reactions are expected to boost the confidence, regulation skill, needs and fascination of dance-for-all participants, which seems to affect an increase in dance-for-all participants.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships of the participation flow of middle-aged women in line dance to their self- manage-ment and resilience. First, training management was found to have exerted a significant influence on behavioral flow, and interpersonal management had a significant impact on cognitive flow. Second, when the relationships between their participation flow into line dance and resilience were analyzed, control was found to have affected behavioral flow in a significant way. Third, the participation flow of the middle-aged women in line dance had causal relationships with self-management and resilience. As it could be inferred from the findings of the study, the participation flow of the middle-aged women is closely bound up with self-management and resilience.
