In this paper. A new formula for primary and secondary thrust of metal belt CVT is proposed considering the variation of band tension and block compression. For secondary thrust. Effective friction coefficient is introduced considering the effect of flange deflection. It is seen that simulation results by new formula agree well with the experimental results. The new formula can be used in design of the primary and secondary thrust for CVT.<br/>

In this paper. low level control algorithms of line pressure and speed ratio are suggested for an electronic controlled CVT. As for the line pressure. an anti-windup feed forward PID algorithm is suggested considering ineffective duty range of variable force solenoid valve. Experimental results show that this algorithm prevents the line pressure undershoot which may cause the CVT belt slip. As for the speed ratio. a fuzzy algorithm is suggested considering the nonlinear characteristics of the CVT shift mechanics. and the hydraulic control valves. Comparing the experimental results of the fuzzy algorithm with those of PID control. it is found that the fuzzy logic shows better performance and robustness. It is expected that the low level control algorithms suggested in this paper can be applied in prototype CVT system design.

A control strategy was investigated for a parallel hybrid vehicle with CVT. CVT was used in order to obtain the load leveling operation of the engine. For driving mode, ZEV and HEV modes were suggested. For ZEV mode. the CVT speed ratio was controlled to make the motor operate with high efficiency. In HEV mode, the CVT ratio was controlled to obtain load leveling of the engine. When the engine output power is larger than the require vehicle power, the extra power is transmitted through generator(motor) to charge the battery. Also, the battery can be charged through regenerative braking. Using SIMULINK. parallel hybrid vehicle with CVT were modeled with graphic modules. Simulation results showed that fuel economy of the parallel hybrid CVT vehicle is 32.9Km/ ℓ for ECE-15 driving mode.

Dynamic models of line regulator valve(LRV) and ratio control valve(RCV) are obtained for an electronic controlled CVT. LRV and RCV are operated by variable force solenoid (VFSL Considering the CVT shift dynamics. oil pump's efficiency and saturation characteristics of VFS. simulations are performed and compared with test results. Simulation results are in good agreement with the experiments ‘ which shows the validity of the dynamic models of LRV and RCV obtained. In addition. the effects of the orifice size in the exhaust port of RCV are investigated. Simulation results show that as the orifice size decreases. the residual pressure in the primary actuator increases which insures the large torque transmission capacity. meanwhile the duration time for the downshift increases.
