The NHTSA requires that every vehicle which has been sold in USA should meet FMVSS201U requirement. The main content of the FMVSS201U is all vehicle must be under 1000 HIC(d) value on FMH test. To meet the FMVSS201U regulation, almost manufacturer has used CAE tools before vehicle test. It is a helpful to develop the vehicle and it can reduce the cost for development of the vehicle, if there is a good correlation between CAE result and physical test. But actually it is difficult to have a good correlation between CAE and physical test for FMH. There are many factor to make those results different. In this paper, we would like to focus on RRAB system movement in Physical test and how to give some conditions to RRAB system on CAE to have a good correlation.

Vehicle Manufacturers effort to meet safety regulation and improve performance for vehicle sale in each country. Specially, Regulation related to interior part is getting important because driver or passenger have to interact directly in accident. NHTSA announced that FMVSS201U regulation have to be met for sale in US. To meet the FMVSS201U regulation, various energy absorbers need to play a role as a countermeasure between roof and Interior headliner. And the shape and material type of energy absorber should be cost effective and need to be optimized. So, in this paper, we studied with the feasible design variables and shows design of energy absorber in a point of the cost effective and meeting FMVSS201U regulation.
