Translation of terminology in Korean in the field of medicine has been one of the important tasks since several decades in Korea. Translation of medical terminology is deeply indebted by the Japanese scholars and direct adaptation of their work by the Korean scholars was the main trend since long time ago. It is because of we are sharing both Chinese character and the similar grammar structure. Although some modification and addition of new translation which is more suitable in the Korean language system has been tried in the different level in the past editions of English-Korean medical terminology books, extensive work has been performed in the 4th edition which was published by the Korean Medical Association in 2001. The Korean Dermatological Association has published first edition of dermatology terminology book in 1983 and the 2nd edition in 1993. Many of them adapted in the 4th edition of the terminology book of the Korean Medical Association. However, there are many changes including some new trial with innovative ideas. This special article covers the difference of two terminology books between 4th edition published by the Korean Medical Association and the 2nd edition of Korean Dermatology Association, which was summarized in the Table. 최근에 새로운 데이타베이스 응용 분야들을 개발하기 위해 객체지향 데이타 모델과 이를 기반으로 하는 객체지향 데이타베이스 관리 시스템들이 등장하였다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 연구 추세와 기존의 객체지향 데이타베이스 시스템들에 대한 분석을 기반으로 새로운 객체지향 데이타베이스 관리 시스템인 Obase의 설계 및 구현을 제시한다. Obase는 C++ 언어의 객체 모델을 확장한 데이타 모델을 기반으로 객체지향 개념들을 지원하고 데이타베이스 관리 기능들과 새로운 응용 분야에서 필요로 하는 기능들을 제공한다. 특히, Obase는 정적인 수정 탐지, 지속적 이름 관리, 정적인 타입 검사 환경에서의 스키마 변화 관리 등의 진보된 기능들을 제공한다. In recent years the object-oriented data models and the object-oriented database management systems have been introduced to support advanced database applications. Based on those introduced data models and systems, this paper presents a new object-oriented database management system, called the Obase, which has been developed using the extended object data model of the C++ language. The Obase supporting object-oriented concepts provides all functionalities necessary for the conventional database management as well as some advanced functionalities such as static update detection, persistent name management, and schema evolution under static type checking.

Cutaneous T cell lymphoma (mycosis fungoides/Sezary syndrome) is a clonal malignacy of helper (CD4+) T lymphocytes usually first detected in the skin. In 8-55% of mycosis fungoides, the malignant T cell clone undergoes, cytologic transformation characterized by pleomorphic, large cells with prominent nucleoli, resulting in the morphologic appearance of a large cell lymphoma. The prognosis of large cell transformation of mycosis fungoides is poor, so detection of cytologic transformation is important to decide further treatment. We report a case of 22-year-old mycosis fungoides patient who developed large cell transformation during photochemotherapy (PUVA). (Korean J Dermatol 2004;42(3):324~327)
경증 및 중등도의 한국인 여드름 환자에서 1% Nadifloxacin 크림(Nadixa(R))의 유효성 및 안전성 평가

Background: Antimicrobials have been a mainstay of inflammatory acne treatment for more than 30 years. However, antibiotic-resistant propionibacteria had been isolated with increased frequency, and associated with failure to respond to antibiotic therapy. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical efficacy and tolerance of 1% nadifloxacin cream. Methods: In the final analysis, 197 patients with mild to moderate facial acne vulgaris were enrolled. The patients were instructed to apply 1% nadifloxacin cream twice daily to the affected skin after washing the face. Following 2 and 4 weeks of treatment, patients were observed for clinical response: number of the acne lesions, Korea acne grading system (KAGS), global improvement, and occurrence of adverse reactions. Results: During 4 weeks of treatment, nadifloxacin caused significant reduction in the number of inflamed papulo-pustular lesions and open/closed comedones. In addition, significant reduction of KAGS was observed. About 96% of patients showed clinical improvement in the overall evaluation of the therapeutic effect by physicians. All reported adverse events were mild. Conclusion: This study shows that 1% nadifloxacin cream can be an effective and safe treatment for mild to moderate acne vulgaris.
