This is a study of Christianity during the latest period of Choson Dynasty with special reference to Kyo-An(敎案) for twenty years beginning with the year of Taite damitie et de Commerce entre la France et la Coree in 1886 to the year of Covention in 1905. The term Kyo-An refers to all social and political conflicts with Christianity especially the Anti-Christian Movements. Diplomatic and Church Documents, news papers, and the other material indicate that many Kyo-An cases were appeared during this period of 1886-1905. The Kyo-An cases may be grouped into three major parts, problems with French cleargy, conflicts between Christian people and non-christians, and conflicts with traditional social institutions such as Tonghak(東學), Sangmu sa(商務社), Hwangkuk Hyophoe(皇國協會), Hyangyak(鄕約), and Ilchin hoe(一進會). There were about 400 Kyo-An cases during this period and raised serious social and political problems. Kyomin Treaty(敎民條約) in 1899 and Missionary Treaty(宣務條約) in 1904 were aimed to solve the problems. However, fundamental solution was to wait until to accept the concept of religeous freedom by the traditional minded people through gradual changes religeous value system. And, it was possible to observe a phase of transitional society changing from the religeous persecution religeous freedom. Kyo-An cases of this period were : firstly, all domestic problems or conflicts without causing international military intervention; secondary, caused few casualty and occured intermittently in a limited area; thirdly, there were no internationally organized Antichristian Movements; fourthly, the most cases of Kyo-An were conflicts of vested intervests between church people and non-chrstians.
