The present study simulate fluid structure interaction of polymer extrusion die and screw. The proper design of polymer extrusion die and screw are very important to the polymer processing. The extrusion of very viscous polymers at high flow rates through narrow coathanger die can result in high internal stresses. These high internal stresses can cause the distortion of the extrusion die. As a result, the exit flow distribution could be unbalanced. Similarly, the screw in a polymer extruder can be deformed, and even worse, broken by high internal stresses caused by very viscous polymer. Also we investigate how to simulate FSI using FLUENT and ABAQUS without fluid-solid interface coupling code.
