In this paper, intrusion detection technique based on the sound field variation of audio frequency in the security space is proposed. The sound field formed by sound source can be detected with the microphone when the obstacle or intruder is positioned. The sound field variation due to the intruder is mainly caused by the interference of audio wave. With the help of numerical simulation of sound field formations, the increase or decrease of sound pressure level is analyzed not only by the obstacle, but also by the intruder. Even the microphone is positioned behind the source, sound pressure level can be increased or decreased due to the interference of sound wave. Frequency response test is performed with Gaussian white noise signal to get the whole frequency response from 0 to half of sampling frequency. There are three security cases. Case 1 is the situation of empty space with and without intruder, case 2 is the situation of blocking obstacle with and without intruder, and case 3 is the situation of side blocking obstacle with and without intruder. At each case, the frequency response is obtained first at the security space without intruder, and second with intruder. From the experiment, intruder size of diameter of 50 cm pillar can be successfully detected with the proposed technique. Moreover, the case 2 and case 3 bring about bigger sound field variation. It means that the proposed technique have the potential of more credible security guarantee in real situation.

This paper presents an active control of the aperture type near-field storage head. In order to achieve a fast and accurate control, a dual servo control algorithm is applied. Based on the big difference in time constants of two actuators, they are used independently. With the combination fine and coarse actuator, the disk is rotated up to 10 rpm speed until the gap is controlled within 100 nm. From the experimental results, the feasibility and the performance of active dual servo gap control is proved.

MEMS-Based Energy Harvesting System Using Self-Organized Heart Muscle Cells

A novel hybrid MEMS-based energy harvesting system is developed using activation of heart muscle cell. Heart muscle cells from rats are cultured on the lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate(PMN-PT) single crystal diaphragm fabricated by MEMS technology. The mechanical stress induced by contraction forces from heart muscle cell is conversed into electrical power by piezoelectric effect. A PMN-PT materials exhibit extraordinary piezoelectric properties and are a kind of biocompatibility materials. This PMN-PT single crystal diaphragm has one-side interdigitated electrode design, which makes it possible that an external stress applied to the diaphragm results in output voltage by piezoelectric effect. After in vitro culture of heart muscle cell, we successfully measured the output signal of voltage from this hybrid MEMS power generator. This result shows the possibility that our power generator can be used as an alternative micropower source for the micro implantable systems or micro/nano-robots. Moreover, it can be applied to study a quantitative understanding of the mechanism of heart failure by measuring the contraction force from cardiomyocytes.
AFM 을 위한 VCM 구동 flexure hinge 스테이지의 최적 설계 및 제어

A systemic design procedure of general VCM (Voice Coil Motor) to fine z-axis AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy) actuator is introduced for fast and precision actuation. As a fine z-axis actuator, PZT and flexure hinge mechanism has been widely used for AFMs. However, PZT actuator has disadvantages of hysteresis, creep, and short working distance. Therefore, in this research, the VCM and flexure hinge mechanism is selected to be free from the weakness of the PZT actuator. In design procedure, design parameters are selected based on the dynamic model of VCM and flexure hinge, and design process is proceed in point of fast and precision actuation. To verify the performance of the designed actuator, frequency response of the actuator and contact type AFM image of standard grid sample are performed.
