A Study on Multi-stage Forging Process for Ball-joint Case in Control Arm of Suspension System

The aim of this study is to improve the forging method of ball joint cases, which are used as connections to parts requiring degrees of freedom, such as vehicle front and control arms. In the case forging, the cold processing method was used and the development of forging technology using finite element analysis was carried out to eliminate inner cutting processing beyond securing dimensional precision. As the rest of the parts except the outer diameter are forged, it has excellent mechanical properties such as strength, rigidity and durability, as well as reducing material and energy needed to produce the product. By producing the process design results established through the finite element analysis in the actual process, a correlation analysis was conducted with the predicted results through the finite elements and products manufactured in reality. This makes it possible to predict forming that can be reflected in reality more and provides a technical foundation for more accurate process analysis in the future. By identifying the physical properties of the friction coefficient and durability of the coating layer applied to the SKH55 mold, an accurate reference line for the required coating layer was also prepared through finite element analysis and actual process.

In their paper, it was studied how the clearance, overlap and mismatch error of spool sleeve affect static pressure characteristics of a servo valve. A computer simulation model was established for a direct acting servo valve, A series of simulation were done for various values of clearance, overlap and mismatch error. Pressure gain decreased as the clearance increased. The overlap also affects the pressure gain and it was similar to the effect of clearance. Asymmetry of pressure plot got worse and worse as the mismatch error increased.

This study is on problem of jamming gears, which is one of the most degrading factors in hydraulic motor performance. The phenomenon of gear sticking to the inside of a hydraulic motor housing was mathematically modeled as quantitative value of wear, and then structural analysis according to the geometric shape of the motor was performed as an analysis. Also in order to improve the manufacturing quality, a method was proposed to lower the defect rate by statistically analyzing the manufacturing process for parts exposed to wear. The analysis showed that 62.6% of parts hydraulic motor were exposed to wear. For the future, optimization of dimensions, addition of clearance values, and improvement of manufacturing process should be further studies in order to minimize wear and increase the mechanical efficiency.
