미국의 무용 교육은 어떻게 행하여지고 있으며 또 무용가들이 어떠한 대우를 받고 있는가? 물론 오늘날의 미국의 무용 교육은 많은 젊은이들의 각광을 받으며 날로 발전하고 있다. 빈약한 우리나라의 무용 교육의 현황과는 달리 당당한 전문과목으로써 존재하고 있으며, 무용만을 전문으로 지도하는 단과대학도 있다. 무용이 완전한 하나의 학문으로서 체계화하였고, 또 젊은이들의 육체적.정신적 발전에 커다란 공헌을 하게 된 이가 있었으니 그의 이름은 [이사도라 단칸]이다. 기교를 생명과 같이 생각하고 극치의 형식의 프로가 되었었고, 프랑스 귀족들의 병적인 탐미주의(眈美主義)를 만족시키기에 급급했던 클라식 발레를 용감하게 분쇄하고, 무용 예술의 자주성과 독자적인 예술로서의 영역을 획득한 이가 바로 단칸인 것이다.

전공무용 영역에 따른 신체구성 및 체형에 관한 비교연구

The purpose of this study was to compare body composition and somatotype among Korean folk dancers, ballet dancers and modern dancers. For this study, sixty subjects were selected from dance major students of Ewha Woman`s University. They consist of twenty Korean folk dancers, twenty ballet dancers and twenty modern dancers. In order to obtain percent of body fat, Durnin`s formula was used, Measuring eight different body parts (skinfold of biceps, triceps subscapular and suprailiac, breadth of humerus and femur, circumference of biceps and calves) . In order to find out somatotype, Heath-Carter`s methodology was used. Some of the major findings are as follows : 1. The percent of body fat of the subjects participation in this study ranges from 16.74 to 19.2 with 17.58% in average. 2. The mean percent of body fat of Korean folk dancers was 19.02% ; that of ballet dancers was 17.00% ; that of modern dancers was 16.74% . 3. The mean lean body mass of modern dancers was 83.26% ; that of ballet dancers was 83% ; that of Korean folk dancers was 80.98%. 4. According to the Heath-Carter`s somatotype, Korean folk dancers showed 4.36-3.55-3.42 ; ballet dancers showed 3.70-3.41-3.47 ; modern dancers showed 3.54-3.78-3.50. 5. Korean folk dancers were found more endomorphic than other dancers, while modern dancers showed more mesomorphic components than other dancers in terms of Sheldon`s somatotyping . 1

The influence of social environments on the works of art has been enormous through a long history of art dance is not an exception. Different social conditions have created different kinds of dance which are totally different in style, movements, music, costumes, etc. In a sense works of dance have been manifestations of social elimate in which they belong. The purpose of this paper is to systematize a history of the modern Korean dance from 1945 to 1960 in the light of social changes and developments and find out how they influenced the development of the modern Korean dance. The study has been done on the basis of collected materials as well as performance needs. Important works performed dancing 1945-1960 have show a great deal of social and political influences. The modern Korean dance has been affected not only by worldwide trends in modern dance but also national and social conditions of Korea.
