N/A To assess of ce11 mediated immunity function, the author examined delayed cutaneous hypersen- sitivity (DCH) responsiveness of Multitest CMI and total lymphocyte count in 41 patients with stomach cancer and 60 healthy subjects as control. The results obtained as follows: 1) In healthy subjects, the average scores of DCH responsiveness were 20.35 mm in male, 10.31 min in female, and 18.50 min in total. There was significant difference between male and female (P<0.01). In the healthy subjects above 40 years old (comparative control group), the average scores wen 19.9 mm in male, 13.5 mrn in female, and 16.3 mm in total. 2) In the stomach cancer group, The average scores were 10.04 min in male, 4.50 min in female, and 8.69 mm in total. The stomach cancer group was divided two group by TMN classification according to the postoperative findings; group A-stage 0, I. II., group B-stage III, IV. The average scores were 13.31 mm in the group A and 6.27 mm in the group B (P<0.01). There was no significant difference between group A and comparative control group. But very significant difference between group B and comparative control grouip was present (P<0.001). 3) Total lymphocyte counts were 2396/mm. In the healthv group, 2602/mm in the group A, 1706/mm in the group B. There was significant difference between the group A and the group B (P < 0.0l). 4) The stomach canncer group vas divided two group by 1300/mm of total lymphocyte count. The average score were 9.98 mm in the group of above 1500 mm of total lymphocyte count and 4.24 mm in the group of below 1500/mm of total lymphocyte count (p<0.01). 5) Tuberculin was the stronger positive DCH responsiveness in the antigen of Multitest CMI in both group. 6) CEA, serum total protein, and serum albumin were not correlated with DCH responsiveness in the stomach cancer group. In conclusion, the Multitest CMI system proved to be safe, rapid, painless, and reproducible means of evaluating DCH to multiple standardized antigen. This procedure offers the potential of detecting changes in cell-mediated immunity in diseased individuals who are skin tested periodically.
