The technology aimed at understanding fluid dynamics on a micro-scale and implementing this into ultra-small machines is actively applied to various fields such as medical science, environmental preservation, and energy innovation. Particularly, transporting fluids without the need for external mechanical or electrical power sources is garnering attention. Here, powerless micropump is fabricated utilizing an aerogel with a comprehensive investigation on the morphological and physical characteristics of aerogels at various concentrations, regarding their fluid transport ability. The fluid transport capacity is systematically controlled by introducing various types of flow resistors installed within the micropump. To demonstrate practicality, the micropump is applied to the reverse electrodialysis (RED) system, where the continuous transport of electrolytes holds particular significance. This research on the powerless fluid transport of aerogel would be actively used to generate optimal flow conditions in microfluidic systems in various fields in the future.
