The purpose of this study is to investigate sound insulation of building element with aperture. The conditions of aperture for measurement were installed in 10 cases of slit width and in 13 cases of slit thickness. To measure the sound insulation, lightweight panel with aperture was installed between two acoustics chambers. In addition, the measured sound reduction indexes for each condition of aperture were compared with the predicted sound reduction indexes by Gomperts theory. The results showed that the sound reduction index of building elemnet with aperture decreased rapidly even though aperture was very small. And the measured single number quantities were in good agreement with the predicted values by Gomperts theory within 2.
