Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have unique advantages of high X-ray absorption ability and biocompatibility. With proper surface modifications, AuNPs are incorporated into human red blood cell (RBC) by different mechanistic pathways. The incorporation efficiency has been studied in terms of the type of the AuNPs and the kinetic equilibrium. The resulting AuNP-RBC complex is utilized as a natural flow tracer in dynamic blood flow detected by an dynamic X-ray imaging technology. This study also provides a fundamental understanding on the characteristic interactions between nano-scale materials and biological systems.

The colloidal forces at a microparticle level have been evaluated theoretically and experimentally. Hydrophilically and hydrophobically surface modified hollow glass beads are suspended in water and hexadecane condition and packed under the minimized gravity force. On the other hand, hollow glass bead with acid functional group is suspended at pH 4, pH 7 and pH 10 condition. The inter-particle distances of each system are investigated by X-ray tomography. The theoretical access has been done based on the London dispersion forces and electrostatic double layer forces. Three-dimensional advanced imaging technology is successfully applied to the understanding of basic particle physics.
소매 브랜드 관리를 위한 기부 및 소비자 태도에 관한 연구

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to provide managerial implications for retail brand managers. Specifically, current study divide donation type into direct donation(e.g., corporate philanthropy) and indirect donation(cause-related marketing) and investigate the donation type on the purchase intention. Also, this research intends to provide the mechanism between the donation type on the purchase intention by showing the mediating role of the consumers perceived warmth. Moreover, the moderating role of the brand type(non-luxury vs. luxury brand) between the donation type, the warmth perception, and the purchase intention will be examined. Research design, data, and methodology - A total of 174 undergraduate students from a university in Korea were recruited and were randomly assigned to the conditions of a 2(donation type: indirect vs. direct) X 2 (brand type: non-luxury vs. luxury) between-subjects design. The hypotheses were tested using SPSS 21.0. Two-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were performed. Results - Empirical results showed that the consumers perceived warmth was higher in the direct donation condition than the indirect donation condition and moreover this influence of the donation type on the perceived warmth was moderated by the brand type. Specifically, the influence of donation type on the perceived warmth was significant only for luxury brand. And there is an interaction effect of donation type and brand type on the purchase intention. More specifically, the purchase intention for luxury brand was higher in the direct donation condition than the indirect donation condition whereas the purchase intention for non-luxury brand was higher in the indirect donation condition than in the direct donation condition. Conclusions - This research contributed to the CSR literature of retail brand management by showing that the influence of the donation type and the brand type on the purchase intention. For a dynamic X-ray visual imaging, the contrast agents in particle forms are developed in micro- and nano-scales. A water-soluble contrast agent is encapsulated into biocompatible polymeric microparticles or gold is designed into functionalized nanoparticles. The fabricated polymeric microparticles are controlled in terms of the size and the encapsulation efficiency of the X-ray contrast agent. The behaviors of the particles in the solution are described by hydrodynamic size (DSUB>H</SUB>) and zeta-potential (ζ-potential). The surface of the gold nanoparticles is modified with acidic, basic, hydrophilic and hydrophobic monolayer. The microscopic structures of the gold nanoparticle aggregates are determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and zone-plate X-ray microscopy. The designed particles are excellent X-ray imaging tracers which enable the dynamic study in the various fluid flows including biological systems.
X-ray 이미징 기법을 위한 속도측정 센서의 성능에 관한 연구

본 연구는 생체에 해를 끼치지 않으며 투과율이 우수한 장점이 있는 X-ray를 이용한 이미징 기법을 위한 센서에 관한 연구이다. X-ray를 이용한 이미징 기법을 위하여 X-ray를 효과적으로 흡수하여 대비효과을 최적화 할 수 있는 입자가 이용되면 시간에 따른 입자의 움직임을 추적하여 속도장을 구하는데 효과적으로 이용할 수 있다. X-ray의 흡수율이 높은 Iopamidol을 생체적합 고분자인 polyvinyl alcohol 로 입자화 하였다. Flory-Huggins model 을 이용하여 입자의 물리적 특성을 설명하고 Beer-Lambert-Bouguer 법칙에 의하여 X-ray 흡수율에 관한 효율을 논하였다. 입자의 물리적 특정과 X-ray 에서의 대비효과가 밀접한 상관관계가 있음을 보이고 실제 응용에 이용될 때 센서입자의 효율을 최적화 할 수 있는 기본연구의 방향을 제시하고자 한다. X-ray contrast flow tracer has been developed for dynamic X-ray visual imaging. For better imaging efficiency, high X-ray absorption ability is one of the important factors in designing the X-ray imaging flow sensor. In this study X-ray absorbing molecule, lopamidol is encapsulated into biocompatible polyvinyl alcohol microparticle. Flory-Huggins model is applied for physical properties of the designed polymeric microparticles containing lopamidol. Beer-Lambert-Bouguer law was revisited to evaluate the X-ray contrast ability of the designed X-ray contrast flow tracer.

To visualize biofluid flows and to analyze their flow characteristics quantitatively, X-ray PIV (particle image velocimetry) technique was developed. However, for practical applications to the biofluid flows, one of the most significant limitations is the lack of suitable flow tracers which are effectively detectable by the xray imaging system. In this study, x-ray contrast agent, Iopamidol was encapsulated into the poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) microparticles as flow-tracing particles. The microparticles were designed and fabricated with varying the size, degrees of crosslinking and amount of Iopamidol encapsulation. With increasing the amount of crosslinker, the efficiencies of crosslinking in the microparticles and the Iopamidol encapsulation are increased. The fabricated particle was seeded into a blood flow to check its feasibility as a flow tracer in the x-ray flow imaging experiments. Due to the difference of the contrast enhancement mechanism, the image contrast of the blood-only flow is much lower than that of the blood flow seeded with microparticles. The Iopamidol encapsulated PVA microparticles were proved to be promising flow tracers in x-ray flow imaging applications.
