Illocutionary Force and Function

예를 들어 "물가가 내려갔다.(Price slumped)"는 추상적 상의절 S_(0) "I say to you..." 라는(abstract higher clause (top-most sentence)가 항상 존재하며 실재로 나타나는 것은 S_(1)과 같은 현상이다. 그래서 언어의 비표현력은 두 종류로 나타나는데 그 하나는 명시적인 것과 다른 하나는 비명시적인 것이며 화용론(Pragmatics)도 이에 근거를 두고 있다.(S.Levinson, 1993: p.163) The aim of this paper is to show the "Function of illocutionary force" which superimposes all types of sentence and speech acts of the type which J.L. Austin(1971) calls performative verbs, a first person subject and a second person indirect object and it must be affirmative and in the present tense. Recently, J.R. Ross(1980) has proposed that not only Question and Imperative must be analyzed as topmost sentence predominating all questions and imperatives, but also all other sentences, declarative and suggestive, must be viewed as having a topmost sentence (higher clause) as a performative which consisting of a verb of performative, a first person subject and a second person indirect. In other words, as the deep structure of the declarative "prices slumped" is given TREE is to be analyzed as the following S_(0) I+verb you S_(1) (Price slumped) +performative S0 +linguistic S1 +communicative +declarative ◁그림 삽입▷(원문을 참조하세요) Illocutionary force gives us two kinds, one is explicit performative another is implicit performative. Even implicit performative, we can trace the abstract-performative hypothesis, In this paper, I devided the performative sentences into five kinds.

The tense of a verb is the form used to denote the time of the action and its completeness or incompleteness. There are three times at which an action can take place, namely present, Past and future and in each of these, there are four stages of completeness and incompleteness. In school grammar, it can be divided into twelve parts. we call it twelve tense. (a)simple tense, (b)continuous tense, (c)perfect tense and (d)continuous perfect tense. Each one got present, Past, and future tense, therefore, four stages time three tense makes twelve tense. As a part of the economic law of languages, we can introduce Minimal-Programs by Chomsky(1995). It is smart idea to have an ideal view point of two-tense theory; present and past. and the others we must treat future as a modal and aspect as continuous and perfect tense.
