This paper suggests the driving circuits of constant voltage, square wave, triangle wave, sine wave DC current control method for LED array adopted optimal heat sink design. The efficacy of LED bulb with all driving circuits showed more than 70% and 20 lm/W. In case of applying prototype LED bulb as a recessed downlight fixture, LED bulb showed high efficiency of 90% because of LED"s directivity despite low optical output and luminous efficacy than CFL. Although LEDs have been used in various applications with improving the brightness and luminous efficacy, the electrical and optical characteristics of high power LED varies at different temperature and starting time. In this paper, optimal heat sink and apparatus design were conducted using ill camera and ICEPAK on the LED bulb consisting with fourteen LED array. The temperatures of heat sink and LED device of the designed LED bulb without cooling pan were 74℃ and 96.8℃, respectively, showing in good thermal characteristics. For high efficiency driving circuit of LED array adopted optimal heat sink design, driving circuits of constant voltage and current circuits were suggested and fabricated. As a result the efficacy of all driving circuits showed more than 20 ㏐/W. Also, the constant current circuits are suitable for signal lamp, hallway lamp, and flash lamp having short operating time(about 30 min). On the other hand, a reading light and indoor lamp having long operating time can be controlled by constant voltage circuit.

Recently, lighting systems of vehicles have been developed toward low power, high energy-saving, and efficient control of light distribution. This paper aims to survey such trends, and to present prospects of advanced lighting systems of vehicles. Emphasis is laid upon the use of high-brightness LED and HID lamps which will be sportlighted in the near future as signal lamps and head lamps of vehicles, respectively. The discussion includes future prospects of lamps and luminaires, and the control of lighting system of vehicles.
