Digital computers are indispensible tool in many modern science and engineering areas. The capabilities of any scientific computers, therefore, limit one's understanding of the problem being modeled. and one's ability to proceed into new direction. More accuracy is needed as the engineering design become more detailed and closer to real problems. Providing access to a super-computer partially eliminates barrier to large-scale computation, and encourages to initiate numerical experiments of already matured theories. The gigantic computing power of super-computers extend potential capabilities of engineers. Optimal design of a plate-beam-truss built-up structure is sought. The main interest is to demonstrate the possibility of large-scale design optimization, utilizing parallel computation of super-computer CRAY.
열분해 튜브의 내면침탄에 따른 열응력 및 변형해석에 관한 연구

Ethylene is produced from a mixture of hydrocarbon feedstock and steam in a pyrolysis tubes. These pyrolysis tubes operating at high temperatures are subject to severe thermal stress, where carbon and/or carbon product get attached to the inner surface of the tubes. This phenomena in duces a localized temperature increase, which in turn enhances a local carburization process. Additional stress is produced due to localized volume expansion, and the change in thermal expansion coefficient. The carburization process eventually gives rise to building, bowing and crack of the pyrolysis tubes which therefore is known to be most critical process that decides the lifetime of the tubes. In this thesis, two dimensional analysis of the thermal stress and strain in the HK-40 pyrolysis tubes with varying carburization depths and was made using finite element methods. A commercially available NISA Ⅱ program was used on 16 different carburization models.

In a turning machine, a chuck has an important role of an interfacer between a machine tool and an workpiece. Chuck determines productivity and efficiency of a turning machine. Research on a high -speed Lathe cannot be done without research on a high-speed chuck. High Speeding of a chuck has been hindered by the centrifugal force and the high stress induced by the centrifugal force. Effect of the centrifugal force has been reduced by the application of the shape optimization and the counter balancing.
h-Refinement 방법을 통한 효율적인 유한요소망 개선에 관한 연구

Most of existing commercial finite element codes effectively provide solutions only for the given mesh pattern, but don't provide the information as to mesh refinement. Thus, a simple criteria based on h-refinement approach and maximizing strain energy in the element is proposed by using existing commercial finite element analysis code. The strain energy formulation and solution technique to effectively calculate strain energy of elements at each refinement level is studied. Finally, the criteria which developed by carrying out this study is examined by applying to mechanical structural problems.

Lower-Pair joint로 구성되고 Spring, Damper등의 외력이 작용하는 평면 메카니즘 (Mechanism)의 동역학적 해석용 프로그램을 개발하였다. 각 Body의 구성을 표현하기 위해 Cartesian Coordinates를 사용하였고, 미분방정식 (Differential Equation)과 대수방정식 (Algebraic Equation)의 혼합방정식을 풀기위해 DE 프로그램을 사용하였다.

This paper presents resizing design optimization method by utilizing genetic algorithm(GA), which consists of three basic operators : reproduction, crossover and mutation. The fitness and penalty function for resizing optimization ploblem are defined, and the flowchart of the developed computer program along with the descriptions of each modules is presented. Also, modelling for flexible-body dynamic analysis is presented. The model is composed of bodies, joints, and force elements such as translational spring-damper-actuator. The design object is to determine the wall thickness for minimum weight under dynamic displacement constraint.

Among the optimization method, GA (genetic algorithm) is a very powerful searching method enough to compete with design sensitivity analysis method. GA is very easy to apply, since it dose not require any design sensitivity information. However, GA has been computationally not efficient due to huge repetitive computation. In this study, parallel computation is adopted to improve computational efficiency. Paralleled GA is introduced on a clustered LINUX based personal computer system.

In this paper, multiphase optimization of machine structure is presented. The goal of first step is to obtain (ⅰ) light weight, (ⅱ) rigidity statically. In this step, multiple optimization problem with two objective functions is treated using Pareto Genetic Algorithm. Where two objective functions are weight of the structure, and static compliance. The method is applied to a new machine structure design.
유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 정밀 스테이지의 슬라이딩모드 제어기 설계에 관한 연구

This paper presents motion control of the precision stage composed of the piezoelectric actuator and flexible hinges. The stage shows approximately 27% overshoot when the stage was applied to 30V square wave input voltage. Also, the stage shows nonlinear response characteristics including hysteresis. This paper proposes feedback control technique to suppress the phenomenon of hysteresis and overshoot using the sliding mode control scheme with the integrator. Also, this paper suggests the method that searches important parameters of sliding mode control and observer using Genetic Algorithm. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm, experimental validations are performed.
