In this study, a new shear wall system consisted of panelized wall units was developed. The panelized wall unit consisted of wood fiber insulation, vacuum insulation, structural timber, plywood, and nails. Three types of shear walls (Set 1 _ single unit, Set 2 _ two units connected with plywood and nails, Set 3 _ two units connected by screw-pressed gluing with plywood) were prefabricated and the shear performance was evaluated. The size of the shear wall was 1.2m×2.4m for Set 1 and 2.4m×2.4m for Set 2 and Set 3. Five specimens for each shear wall were prepared and cyclic load tests were carried out according to ISO 16670 standard. In all specimens, tensile failure of the plywood and studs at the top of the hold-down occurred. The maximum shear strength of Set 1 was 47.2 kN/m and that for Set 2 and Set 3 was 51.0 kN/m and 52.9 kN/m, respectively.

The aim of this study was to develop and commercialize a wood reinforced earth retaining wall system using domestic wood. Structural safety and service life of domestic treated wood were investigated. A connection between wood member and grid was developed and the structural safety of the connection was simulated and checked. The slope stability of the ground was also checked and the simulation result was satisfied. The developed retaining wall system was constructed and the economic efficiency through the construction was analyzed. The results show that the developed retaining wall system was approximately 30% economical than the conventional gravity retaining wall system.

Food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (FDEIA) is a specific variant of exercise-induced anaphylaxis that requires both vigorous physical activity and the ingestion of specific foods. In particular, it is rare occurrence for FDEIA to be associated with meat in Korea. A 15-year-old female had generalized urticaria, dyspnea, severe cough, headache, dizziness, and vomiting after singing and dancing for 1 hour and after ingesting grilled pork. Skin prick tests showed a strong positive reaction to pork, whereas the results of an oral food challenge and exercise provocation tests were negative. However, the exercise provocation test after pork ingestion showed a positive reaction manifested by generalized urticaria, cough, mild dyspnea, and a 23% decreased peak expiratory flow rate. Three allergens to pork (67 kDa, 90 kDa, and 15 kDa) reacted with the patient`s serum on immunoglobulin E immunoblotting. We report a case of pork-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis in a patient who was sensitive to pork.

In this study, the tensile stiffness and strength of glued-in-rod connections were investigated. A hole (ø20×300mm) was drilled on the cross-section of larch glulam (moisture content: 10%). A steel bar (ø16×500mm) was inserted 300mm into the hole of the glulam. The gap between the hole of glulam and the steel bar was filled with epoxy. Six specimens were prepared and the tensile test was evaluated with UTM (100kN, Zwick) by KS F ISO 9087. The test speed was 3mm/min and a Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT) was installed between the glulam and steel bar. Five of the six specimens were not failed at the maximum capacity of the UTM, and one specimen (No. 3) was destroyed at 89.3kN. When the steel bar was pulled out, the load decreased sharply, and the epoxy and wood were attached around the steel bar. The tensile stiffness was a range of 41.7 kN/mm ~ 54.1 kN/mm, and the average value was 45.8 kN/mm. The tensile strength was 0.3 kN/mm (91.5kN/300mm).

In the era of Carbon neutral, tall timber structures have been expanding to the urban building in the world. In Korea, the timber structures have been concentrated on light-frame construction and there are almost no timber buildings with a span of 10m or longer. Glued-laminated timber (GLT) is manufactured by a combination of laminae so the structural performance can be predicted by the properties of the lamina in the layers. The grades and combinations of GLT lamina differ from country to country. In this study, a prediction model for domestic GLT and hybrid GLT was investigated and a hybrid GLT reinforced with steel on the tensile or compressive side of GLT was analyzed to find out the optimal combinations.

Ecological architecture uses sustainable building materials that minimize the impact on ecosystems. Various architectural cases from the single-storey house to 24-storey building have been constructed using cross-laminated timber (CLT) in the world. Several domestic CLTs have been developed and the structural characteristics were evaluated. This study introduces the certification criteria and process of ecological materials based on environmental product declaration (EPD). The CLT design methods including design formula, adjustment factors, and fire resistance calculations were also reviewed based on overseas CLT design methods.
