This study examined the literature on foot orthoses(FO) and the experiences from people who have been using FO in Korea. The research had two inter-related objectives. One was to investigate the similarities and differences between the results from the 57 foreign studies on FO in normal and diseased foot, and the experiences from Koreans who have had and used FO. The second objective was to provide short-term and long-term marketing strategies for the domestic FO market. Survey data were collected from 99 people who had used FO at least once before. Data analysis included two independent t-tests for testing the satisfaction level differences along with their FO information(custom-molded and pre-fabricated FO) and descriptive statistics for investigating FO design, price, material, and demographic information. Results indicate that there were similarities between the previous study and this study in that people from both parties preferred soft FO to rigid ones with respect to comfort and efficacy. As well, in terms of the length of FO, the full length FO was preferable to the half length ones or simple arch supports to both parties. However, while the result from the previous studies that there was no significant difference between custom-molded orthoses and pre-fabricated ones, people from this study replied that the custom-molded orthoses produced higher satisfaction levels than the pre-fabricated ones did. Based on the user feedback from this study, both short-term and long-term marketing strategies were presented.
