Rudder, one of the essential components in the ship, is now being decreased life time to serve due to cavitation erosion, high flow speed. Thermal spraying has been recognized as the most effective and practical solution because of its variety in coating material choice without any limits in the shape and size of parts to be applied. In this study, we intended to give a direction of optimized design to improve the prevention from surface corrosion, cavitation erosion. At first, we produced 4 kinds of thermal spray double-layer coating materials (STS 316/Al, Al5Si and Ni-Al-Bronze/Al, Al5Si). In addition, the influence of double-layer coating materials on corrosion resistance is evaluated by electro-chemical anodic polarization tests, measuring corrosion potential in natural sea water and salt spray test.
