Water supply facilities are recently getting larger according as domestic waterworks become multi - regional water supply system. Large water supply facilities generally consist of the intake pumping station, water treatment station and water supply & distribution facilities. Although pumping stations and pipeline systems are used to pump up water, it often happens pipeline damage and flooding accident by the water hammer. As a result of this study, a pumping station is guaranteed by the computer simulation and field test analysis. Therefore these are contributed safety operation in pumping station through adjustment of the pumping station safety plan, air valve and valve closing time.

The thesis is performed to find out the stability of Water-hammer that is happened when additional water needs demanded. At first, the water supply construction project is planned to supply 6,000 m3/day through 179㎞ pipeline. But additional demand 0,200 m3/day) happened from Cheong-Ra Water reservoir. In this situation, Air-chamber(4 m3) & Vacuum breaker valve(Φ100 ㎜) are needed to prevent Water-hammer. When the additional water is supplied, the existing facilities(Air-chamber, Vacuum breaker valve) are sufficient to alleviate shock not changing capacity alteration, judging from the airspace change and rise. Therefore, there is no problem for Water-hammer by installing Air-chamber(4 m3) and Vacuum breaker valve(Φ100 ㎜) at the top of Yeo-ju hill.

This study is the content about the pumping system that the case for the quantity control without the water reservoir at the point being an outflow high ground of the pumping station to provide the water. We are stable research for the operation of the cost reduction and equipment through the facilities improvement in the best suited driving is difficult to the change of the pump of the characteristic curve and an energy loss is happening.

In pump stations, abrupt black-out can cause water hammer to break pipeline, pumps and valves if the pressure is high enough. To prevent this, usually we adopt air-chamber and safety valve. Currently, schematic control of valves downstream of pumps is also proposed as an economical way to damp pressure surge in pump station. In Sung-Nam pump station of Kwater, they replaced check valves of pumps to butterfly valves which can be controlled by logical sequence to check back-flow, to open-close for starting and to stop and to relieve water hammer. This study is to evaluate the ability of the butterfly valve and to make optimal control schedule of the valve as a damper of water hammer.
