SUM-FREQUENCY VIBRATIONAL SPECTROSCOPY OF WATER+ETHANOL BINARY SOLUTION
재호 성,도석 김 한국물리학회 2004 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.44 No.6
Sum-frequency vibrational spectroscopy (SFVS) was used to investigate the molecular structure of ethanol at the air/liquid (binary mixture of water and ethanol) interface. The sum-frequency signal from the terminal methyl group (CH3) of the ethanol molecule rapidly increased with increasing bulk ethanol concentration, reached a maximum at 0.2 mole fraction of ethanol, and gradually decreased to one half of the maximum value as a pure alcohol surface was reached. For a quantitative understanding of the surface conformation, the contribution to the sum-frequency signal was separated into the orientation factor and the surface density. Polarization-dependent SFVS measurements showed that the orientation of the terminal methyl group of the ethanol did not vary appreciably with changing bulk-ethanol concentration, suggesting that the origin of the signal enhancement is mainly due to the increase in the surface concentration of ethanol in the ethanol/water mixture as compared to the bulk ethanol.
Time-resolved photoluminescence study of an aggregation-induced emissive chromophore

The photophysical properties associated with the aggregation-induced emission of hexaphenylsilole (silole) in an acetone/water mixture were studied by using a uorescence decay lifetime measurements. The uorescence decay lifetime of silole in a pure acetone solution was very short and was barely resolved from the instrumental response function (150 ps) of the time-correlated single photon counting system. When water as a poor solvent was added to the silole solution, the photoluminescence (PL) intensity was signicantly enhanced above 60 % of the water fraction compared to the pure acetone solution, and the PL decay lifetime increased up to a value of 4 ns. These results conrmed the formation of silole nanoparticles in the solution of water mixture, which restricted the intramolecular rotational motion of the phenyl rings linked to silole center, reduced the nonradiative decay process of silole chromophore, and led to an increase in the PL decay lifetime and the quantum efficiency.
Ion-beam treated polyimide surface studied by second-harmonic generation
곽진석,윤태훈,G. D. Lee,J. Y. Jung,성재호,S. H. Kim,도석 김,김재창 한국물리학회 2004 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.45 No.1
Optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) was used to investigate the molecular orientation and structure of ion-beam treated polyimide surface and the adsorbed liquid crystal monolayer on this surface. The SHG signal from the polyimide surface exposed obliquely to a directional ion beam was almost isotropic azimuthally, while that from the rubbed polyimide surface showed expected anisotropy with respect to the rubbing direction. SHG from the monolayer of liquidcrystal molecules adsorbed on top of the ion-beam-treated polyimide surface became slightly more anisotropic, as compared to the polyimide surface.
