When the concentration of WGpet-alc was under 0.05%, human serum L-isocitrate dehydrogenase was activated in vitro but its activity lowered as the concentration of WGpet-alc rose, and it was found that about 47% of the ICDH activity was diminished in the presence of 2. 0% of WGpet-alc. On the other hand, an inhibitory effect of WGpet on ICDH was observed even at low concentration, and it was shown that ICDH was completely inhibited at 0.05% of WGpet. A similar effect of WGpet-alc and WGpet was also observed in human serum L-malate dehydrogenase reaction. The activity of MDH increased sufficiently (about 2.3 times at the concentration of 0.05% WGpet-alc), but the activity lowered when the concentration of WGpet-alc rose over 0.05%. At 2.0% of WGpet-alc the enzyme activity decreased to almost half. When 0.05% WGpet was added to the reaction mixture, about 57% of the enzyme activity was found to be diminished and a complete inhibition of the enzyme activity occurred at 0.1% of WGpet.

The activity of Albino rat hepatic L-glutamate dehydrogenase (GIDH) was greatly increased in the presence of the ginseng extract (WGpet-alc) in vitro, and it was found that at the concentration of 0.1% and 1.5% WGpet-alc the specific activity of the enzyme was about two and four times that of control respectively. The G1DH`s inhibitory effect of GTP was found gradually decreased as the concentration of WGpet-alc rised. Petroleum ether extract of ginseng (WGpet) was observed to inhibit the G1DH`s activity remarkably even at very low concentration. In relation to the physiological activities of ginseng substances, it may be noted that ginseng contains at least two different active principles) which showed the activating and inhibiting effect on the activity of an enzyme system.
