Objectives ; This study was undertaken to determine whether Carthami-Flos aquacapuncture (CFA) exerts protective effect against oxidant-induced inhibition of $Na^+-K^+$-ATPase activity in cerebral synaptosomes. Methods and Results ; The enzyme activity was dependent on incubation time and enzyme protein concentrations. An oxidant t-butylhydroperoxide (tBHP) at 1 mM concentration caused a significant inhibition of $Na^+-K^+$-ATPase activity, which was prevented by addition of 0.01% CFA. tBHP inhibition and CFA protection were independent on incubation time or enzyme protein concentrations. The enzyme activity was increased by ATP in a dose dependent manner. Effects of tBHP and CFA were not affected by ATP cocentrations. tBHP (1 mM) produced a significant increase in lipid peroxidation in cerebral synaptosomes, which was prevented by 0.01% CFA. CFA decreased oxygen free radicals generated induced by the phorbol-ester in a dose-dependent manner in human neutrophil. Conclusions ; These results suggest that CFA exerts protective effect against tBHP-induced inhibition of $Na^+-K^+$-ATPase activity, which is due to by an antioxidant action resulting from a direct scavenging effect of oxygen free radicals in the cerebral synaptosomes.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of arbitrarily located defect around the circular hole in the aircraft structural material such as Al/GFRP laminates and monolithic Al alloy sheet under cyclic bending moment. The fatigue behavior of these materials may be different due to the defect location. Material flaws in the from of pre-existing defects can severely affect the fatigue crack initiation and propagation behavior. The aim of this study is to evaluate effects of relative location of defects around the circular hole in monolithic Al alloy and Al/GFRP laminates under cyclic bending moment. The fatigue behavior i.e., the stress concentration factor($K_t$), the crack initiation life($N_i$), the relationship between crack length(a) and cycles(N), the relationship between crack growth rate(da/dN) and stress intensity factor range(${\Dalta}K$) near a circular hole are considered. Especially, the defects location at ${\theta}_1=0^{\circ}\;and\;{\theta}_2=30^{\circ}$ was strongly effective in stress concentration factor($K_t$) and crack initiation life($N_i$). The test results indicated the features of different fatigue crack propagation behavior and the different growing delamination shape according to each location of defect around the circular hole in Al/GFRP laminates.

The aim of this research is to evaluate the relationship between the total effective moment (M<SUP>E</SUP>) and Bernoulli-Euler bending moment (M) when the ply orientations of UD CFRP in Piezoelectric Zirconate Titanate Composite Actuator (PZTCA) are changed. The obtained results as follows. Firstly, as the performance test results by the CFRP ply orientation, the performance of [0] and [90] were stable. However, while the performance of [+45] was suddenly decreased after 5 hours. Secondly, the change of M<SUP>E</SUP> by the CFRP ply orientation was evaluated. As the CFRP ply orientation was increased from [0] to [+60], the M<SUP>E</SUP> were gradually decreased. However, they became a little bit increased from [+60] to [90]. Finally, after the change of M by the CFRP ply orientation was evaluated, it was found that M<SUP>E</SUP>=2.2M was valid for just [0] and that there was a relationship between M<SUP>E</SUP> and M according to the ply orientation.

The CFRP laminate is easy to delaminate by a relatively small impact, resulting in a reduction of the compression strength. Conventional monitoring methods, such as ultrasonic wave inspection and X-ray inspection, are very costly and time-consuming, with a difficulty of real-time monitoring. The Eddy Current (EC) technique has been used in nondestructive testing for metallic materials. Since CFRP laminate consists of electroconductive carbon fibers and insulative resin, it is inhomogeneous material with strongly anisotropic electrical property. EC path, however, may be complicated in the laminate because of the strong anisotropy. Since a delamination is debonding of in-plane interfaces of plies, eddy current in the through-thickness direction plays an important role to measure electric resistance change. In Electric Resistance Change Method (ERCM), delamination location and length are estimated by measuring electric resistance chang on laminate.

In relation to the fabrication of bio-sensors and electronics/optical devices, patterning (bio)molecules on a solid surface has been extensively investigated. One dimensional arrangement of nanoparticles is important in that the study of transport properties of a linear quantum dot array becomes possible. This paper proposes a strategy for arranging 50 ㎚ gold nanoparticles on oxides patterns fabricated by the AFM tip induced local anodic oxidation. The oxides patterns are selectively functionalized by APTES to bear free amine and the citrate stabilized 50 ㎚ gold nanoparticles are drop-casted on the oxide templates.

We analyze transient current data during the formation of titanium oxide nanodots by AFM-tip-induced anodic oxidation with the aim of getting further understanding of local oxidation kinetics. The measured current waveforms show a transition between two distinct regimes, in agreement to what was previously known of the growth process, and their behavior is discussed with respect to the oxide growth rate and to the formation of the space charge. Furthermore, it is shown how the knowledge of the duration of the first transient regime can be exploited to optimize the application of pulsed bias voltages to obtain a substantial improvement in aspect ratio of growing oxides.

In the case of Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL), the most frequent mechanism is the dashboard injury, which is directly pressurized to the anterior of the proximal tibia in the state of the knee hyperflexion. The PCL associated ligament damage happens when the posterior injury, the varus, the valgus, the hyperextension and the severe vagus torque are out of the critical value of PCL. After the successful operation cases of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction using the allograft were informed from 1986, a number of results kept over the maximum 10 years were reported. Unfortunately, PCL reconstruction are crowded the surgery techniques such as the graft, the tibia fixing method, the fixation device, the location of the femoral tunnel, the number of the graft bundles and PCL reconstruction to access to the stability of the normal joint is being developed. Therefore, this study is the basic research of these above facts. The current transtibial tunnel surgery using the cadaveric Achilles tendon grafts is chosen for the various PCL reconstruction. The initial extension of the Achilles tendon by the fixing device and its location under the cyclic loading, were observed.

45% of the sports accidents is the knee damage and the representative case is the damage of an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and the Posterior Cruciate Ligament(PCL). Although the past different views of ACL reconstruction comes to an agreement, the disputes of PCL is remained yet. The most important engineering approach for these various surgery techniques is accurately to understand and to evaluate the fatigue behavior depending on the stress flow and the stress distribution under the allotted load and the cyclic load, which are caused by the graft fixing device, the proximal tibia of the PCL reconstructing structure. Therefore, this study is the basic research of these above facts. The current transtibial tunnel surgery using the cadaveric Achilles tendon grafts is chosen for the various PCL reconstruction. The relationships between the slippage, the extension ratio, and the slippage ratio by the heel bone fixing method and the soft tissue fixing method of the Achilles tendon were also defined. This research will be the essential data to help the resonable operating techniques for the next PCL reconstruction.
