This study was conducted to evaluate the biological water quality by aquatic insects community analysis in Tamjin river system. The total taxa of aquatic insects was identified in all sites 93 species. 71 genera, 37 families in 9 orders: In summer, 57 species, 43 genera, 24 families, 9 orders, in autumn, 54 species, 41 genera, 25 families in 7 orders, and in winter, 50 species, 41 genera. 26 families in 7 orders were recorded. According to the analysis of biological indices of dominance index(DI), diversity index(H`), pollution index(PI) and biotic index(BI), Water quality of majority in suveyed sites was either oligosaprobic or β-mesosaprobic. It was β-mesosaprobic in all sites except for site 5 in summer. Whereas in autumn, site 5, 6, 7, 10 were oligosaprobic and the rest were β-mesosaprobic. In winter, site 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 revealed as oligosaprobic, site 10, 11, 12 and 13 as β-mesosaprobic, and site 8 as polysaprobic condition.

The present study was performed to analysis of aquatic insects community at Tamjin river system from September 1994 to January 1995. The total taxa of aquatic insects was identified 93 species 72 genera 37 families in 9 orders. Among them major groups were Ephemeroptera (22 species) and Coleoptera (20 species). The fauna was dominated by Ephemeroptera (52.8%), Diptera (14.3%), and Trichoptera (12.8%). The seasonal species number of collected specimens was 57 in summer, 54 in autumn and 50 in winter. Mostly dominant species were belonged to Ephemeroptera, above all Uracanthella rufa dominated and its indices ranged from 0.34∼0.99. Diversity indices were 0.13∼3.62. According to the saprobic system based on the diversity indices of aquatic insects, all the sites were determined as β-mesosaprobic or origosaprobic area.
Vol.29 No.2
A study was conducted to gain information on the life cycles and emergence patterns of Oyamia nigribasis and Kamimuria coreana collected from Mt. Mudung and Byongpung in Korea. Oyamia nigribasis and Kamimuria coreana were semivoltine species which were taken two years to complete their life cycle, but some individuals hatched lately were lasted three years. The emergence patterns of both species were the extended type and the adults of O. nigribasis emerged between April to August and K. coreana emerged May to August. They emerged in the night and spent about 30∼40 minutes. O. nigribasis had some delayed hatching or diapause because their early instars were occurred between February and March, but this was not clear in K. coreana.

The total taxi of aquatic insects in the Tongbok stream were 78 species, 54 genera, 29 families in 8 orders. Among them, major groups were mayflies(24 species) and caddiesflies(17 species). The seasonal species number of collected specimen were similar, that is, they occurred 44 species in winter, 45 species in spring and summer respectively, and 39 species in autumn. In proportion of individuals at this surveyed stream, caddisflies were the highest(42%) and mayflies were 30%. Mostly dominant species were belonged to caddisflies and mayflies. Above all, Hydropsyche KUb and serratella rufa were dominant species. Dominant indices ranged from 0.25∼0.88. Species diversity indices showed 1.14∼4.29.

The seasonal and altitudinal distribution of the Plecoptera nymphs in Paemsagol valley were studied from October 1986 to August 1987. Total number of species identified was 19 species representing 17 genera in 9 families. The seasonal variation was showed 12 species on spring and winter, 10 species on autumn and 5 species on summer, respectively. Scopura laminata occurred in over the elevation of 700 m. Taenionema KUb and T. KUc are only occurred in the elevation of 1,000 m. According to the increasing altitude, the number of individuals of Taenionema KUa, Yoraperla KUa and Megarcys ochracea were increased, but Oyamia coreana and Pteronarcys saccharina were decreased. Predominantly occurring species in the number of individuals were Yoraperla KUa, Taenionema KUa, Sweltsa nikkoensis, and in biomass were Paragnetina flavotincta, Kamimuria KUa, Megarcys ochracea and Paragnetina flavotincta.

This study was examined to clarify on food habits and relationships about 4 species of superfamily Sublipalpia in Plecoptera (Insecta). Oyamia coreana fed mainly on young nymphs of Chironomidae and Heptageniidae and feeding amount of each foregut was 3∼7 individuals of Chironomidae. Paragnetina flavotincta fed on 1∼2 individuals of Heptageniidae, 1∼3 of Baetidae and 6∼9 of Chironomidae. Kiotina decorata fed on 2∼3 individuals of Heptageniidae. Megarcy ochracea fed on Chironomidae and Heptageniidae and feeding amount of each foregut was about 20 individuals of Chironomidae. Actively feeding season of these species is spring, where as, inactive in fall. Food selection except Kiotina decorata which had preference for Heptageniidae (electivity, +0.6) had for Chironomidae (+0.4∼0.8), but all of them avoided plant materials and aquatic insects of which head capsule width was over 2.0 mm.

The taxa of benthic macroinvertebrates in the upper region of the Cheungam stream was composed of 76 species, 61 genus, 41 families, 13 orders, 4 classes in 3 phyla. Among them, aquatic inserts containing 71 species (93%) were the major group. According to order, Ephemeroptera containing 26 species was abundant, and Trichoptera containing 19 species, Plecoptera 13 species an? Diptera 11 species were the major taxa. The seasonal species number of collected specimens was most numerous in spring (57 species) and similar in other seasons (41∼44 species). On the one-to-one propotion, Ephemeroptera were the highest (52%), and Trichoptera was 19%, Diptera 16%, Plecoptera 9%. DOminant Species were Epeorus, Cincticostella castanea, Serratella rufa and Hydropsyche belonging to Ephemeroptera and Trichoptera. Dominant indices ranged from 0.34∼1.00. Species diversity indices showed 0.00∼3.82. According to saprobic system based on the species diversity indices, water quality was evaluated to be oligosaprobic and β-mesosaprobics. The biological water quality as in biotic and pollution indices was evaluated oligosaprobic in site 1, 2 and 6 and β-mesosaprobics in site 3, 4 and 5.
