According to the recent discovery of adipose tissue derived adult stem cells(ASCs), many researchers are working on ASCs for the possibility of clinical application. It has been already known that bone marrow stem cells, umbilical cord blood stem cells and vascular endothelial cells are effective in vascular regeneration within ischemic tissue. The purpose of this study is to confirm the angiogenic effect of differentiated endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs) from ASCs in ischemic hind limb model. In this study, as a control group, saline was injected for 12 rats and 1×107 EPCs were injected into muscular for ischemic hind limb. After 3 weeks, ischemic hind limb specimens were harvested and various techniques of analysis including fluorescence optical animal image system(Cell Visio, 488(R)), immunofluorescence, infrared thermography showed visual evidence of improved blood supply and new vessels in treated EPCs. Histological study was also revealed increased vascularization within ischemic tissue. It is obvious that EPCs from ASCs are an effective therapeutic agent for the revascularization of ischemic tissue.
