A clutch is a very important component when engine starts and gear shifting is needed. The clutch the most commonly used is the dry clutch. This type of clutch has pads, and they are worn after dis/engagement of clutch little by little. The characteristics of the clutch changes as these pads wear, so wear needs to be measured, and the clutch should be controlled for proper operation. In this study, the clutch contact point estimation algorithm has been developed. From this algorithm, clutch force map changes depending on wear, and the clutch operates properly. We also see the shifting transient of a vehicle for drivability with throttle valve position control and synchronizer movement.

A clutch is a mechanical device which provides engine torque to the body of car. For a commercial vehicle, engine can not make its torque until the minimum value of revolution per minute of engine, so it is needed a non-loaded condition to operate the engine using clutch disengagement at the first moving. Clutch also needs to be studied for the driver’s convenience as development of new technology like MTAC or AMT. In this study, we came to know about the characteristics of clutch and its operation phases, and we computed the simulation for the verification of clutch operation during gear shifting. Moreover, clutch control system is suggested by control of throttle valve position and clutch release position. Additionally, clutch and engine slip speed control is suggested for good driveability.

In a fuel cell hybrid vehicle (FCHV), the operating points of the fuel cell system (FCS) can be shifted to its high-efficiency region by using a battery and the total hydrogen consumption depends on power management strategies. Two types of power management strategies are presented in this paper and the concept of equivalent hydrogen consumption is applied to this study due to the difference between the initial and final SOC of the battery. The equivalent hydrogen consumption of each strategy is evaluated and compared to each other.
