Recently, due to the high price of diesel fuel the usage of illegal diesel fuel is increasing steadily. Illegal diesel fuel does not satisfy the standard quality measurements such as lubricity ,density, sulfur contents and so on. Common rail diesel fuel injection systems are becoming widely used by vehicle manufacturers due to their microprocessor control, enabling a more flexible approach to how much and when fuel is injected into the engine cylinder. In order to avoid any contamination of the fuel, the high pressure pump is lubricated solely by the fuel. This means that it is vulnerable to variations in the quality of the fuel and, in particular, the lubricity performance of the fuel. Common rail fuel supply pump(high pressure) wear tests and injector wear tests were conducted on a legal diesel fuel and an illegal-diesel fuel using a 1000-hour test method developed for this study. After each fuel system component durability test, fuel supply pumps and common rail injectors were disassembled to check wears which arose from a lack of lubricity.

Biodiesel produced from triglyceride which is main component of animal fats and vegetable oils by methanolysis was known for excellent lubricity. In this study, the lubricity of 12 kinds of biodiesel come from vegetable oils were analyzed using HFRR (High frequency reciprocating rig). The biodiesel synthesized from soybean oil has best lubricity by 153 ㎛ of wear scar in HFRR and used fried oil's biodiesel has slightly low lubricity by 299 ㎛. Also we have found that the lubricity of diesel was improved when mixing ratio of soybean biodiesel was increased in base diesel.

동식물 유지의 주성분인 트리글리세라이드를 메탄올과 반응시켜 생산된 바이오디젤은 기존 석유디젤에 비해 윤활성이 뛰어난 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 12종류의 식물성오일로부터 바이오디젤을 합성한 뒤, 이들의 윤활성을 HFRR을 이용해 측정하였다. 또한 바이오디젤의 윤활성 및 물성은 바이오디젤을 구성하고 있는 지방산메틸에스테르 분자들에 의해 결정된다. 순수한 지방산으로부터 바이오디젤을 합성한 뒤, 이들의 연료특성 및 윤활성을 측정하였다. Biodiesel produced from triglyceride which is main component of animal fat and vegetable oil by methanolysis was known for excellent lubricity compare to petrodiesel. In this study, we determinated 12 kinds of biodiesel from vegetable oils using HFRR. Also, biodiesel's lubricity and physical properties were depand on their composed fatty acid methyl ester molecules. The synthesized pure biodiesel molecules were analyzed the fuel characteristics such as derived cetane number, low temperature properties, kinematic viscosity, and lubricity.
