Flexible roll forming process is the process to fabricate beams with variable cross-sections for industrial applications. The beams fabricated by flexible roll forming have shape errors. It is necessary to prevent the shape error to apply the beams to industrial fields. In this study, as the preliminary investigations, the processing parameters of the flexible roll forming and the additional processes to prevent the shape errors, the constant blank holders, the flexible blank holders, are investigated. The shape errors of each process are compared. In case of the beams fabricated by the flexible roll forming and the flexible blank holders, the shape errors are prevented firstly.

Needs for profiles with variable cross-sections are increasing to meet industrial applications. Flexible roll forming is capable to fabricate profile with variable cross-sections. Span length which is a distance between each roll stand is important parameter to affect longitudinal strain on flange sections of profiles. And span length needs to be longer than deformation length of profiles during flexible roll forming to reduce unnecessary longitudinal strain on flange sections. In this study, deformation length is investigated. By studying shape parameters of profiles with variable cross-sections, the deformation lengths of profiles during flexible roll forming were analyzed. As radius curvatures and transition angles on transition zones increase, deformation length increases.
